I know this is a downhill skiing site but I'll be in NH sometime soon and was thinking of trying nordic skiing. Anyone have any suggestions on places to go or if should take lessons? I've been downhill skiing for 30 years not sure that matters though & pretty athletic.

I know Bretton Woods and Jackson have big operations are they the best bet in the MWV?

Thanks

Yes, both are excellent!

If you're already staying at the Mt Washington hotel, it makes a lot more sense to ski at Bretton Woods.

Look for a package that includes trail fee, rental and lessons. It may come out as a good value than just trail fee + rental.

Last, if you're "pretty athletic", you may want to try skate skiing.

I'm staying near Attitash so I was figuring it's probably the same distance to either but I'll check out the map.

So is it hard to learn or is it just getting used to the equipment?

It's definitely not "hard" for downhill skiers. Though it's a little more than "just getting used to the equipment". To get the most enjoyment out of it, you could benefit from a bit of instruction, especially if you're trying skating.

(disclaimer: I started skate skiing last season, it had turned into an obsession... ;) )

Right where I want to be
Agree that Jackson is closer to Attitash. I like both but BW has way better views. I skate ski and find classic boring on groomed trails.
Heading to Jackson on wednesday to do some XC.

Great Glen and Bretton Woods would be pretty good. Can't beat the views at the Mount Washington Hotel.

Bear notch is 5 minutes from attitash, not as snooty as Jackson and dog friendly

Wow thanks for all the replies. Our plan is probably to ski at Wildcat half a day and then try XC at Jackson for the 2nd half. Thanks for all the input and help!
