That list looks good to me. The limited time I have skied in New York out of those I have found Gore to be the most enjoyable. Its size, variety of terrain and seamingly lack of people made that clear to me.

I would put Plattekill in the top five, especially for the ton of natural snow that the mountain gets. I have had many powder days at Plattekill.:) and the rates for a ticket are hard to beat.

I've never been to Plattekill but really would like to. Stayed in Roxbury last year but warmer temps had closed plattekill and we could only ski at belleayre. How are the trails (steepness/terrain) at plattekill compared to whiteface and other catskill areas?

I would place Plattekill somewhere between Windham and Hunter for difficulty and terrain style. This area gets alot more snow than the rest of the Catskills seem to an often has 50% more snow than Belleayre does just a few miles away.

Plattekill is not big on snowmaking or grooming and is more like a Mad River Glen.

This was Plattekill when I skied it on March 4th, 2006:

No way I would put Belleayer ahead of Windham. And yes, Plattekill does belong in this list. I would say take Belleayre out Plattekill in.

i like belleayre more than windham because it seems like they always have more snow and the mountain is usually in better condition although with all the changes windham made they are shaping up to have a good year

I've only been to Belleayre once and didn't like it because of the way the mountain and lifts were layed out.

I find Bellayre to be a little "unchallenging" for my style... I really like what they are doing there and love the vibe..

I got a free day ticket for this season... :) So I'll probably head over there for some turns..

Yeah, to me it seemed like every trail was pretty much alike.

I would take Belleayre over Windham any day for better snow quality and to be away from the NYC zoo crowd which Belleayre seems to avoid. I have only been to Windham three times and have no desire to return, I would rather go to Hunter or Plattekill first.

Bobcat was a cool place. I only skied it once with about 18" of powder around 1995-1996? but they seem to not be able to open up lately. It's a challenging place with only T-bars, and limited snowmaking, I think only on the beginner slope? or none at all.

I agree with you, but I also like the Cathedral Brook snow cat skiing. They also have great customer service and an excellent ski school and begginer area.

It's all ridge>long runout stuff....

just doesn't hold my interest.. I actually stopped skiing the Pocono's because of that style terrain..

And a lot less people! Love this place, just sorry I couldn't make it last year.

1. Whiteface
2. Gore if glades and liftlines are open, if not though call between them and Hunter.
3. Hunter
4. Hickory Hill was a cool place, hope they reopen this season

Besides Hunter the only other Catskill mountain I've skied is Winham

Snow Ridge

I'll have to throw in a vote for SnowRidge. Not too much vert, but they can get hammered with lake effect.....has some great unmarked options.
Also put a vote in for Hickory....cool place
