I spent New Year’s Day at magic. What was open was superb groomed conditions after a couple of inches fell overnight.

they were running the guns on the end of wand hocus pocus kept it from getting slick.

Still having water issues?
Not sure what you’re referring to. But the pond, while dented, still has a good amount of water - about as much as it had at its max pre-pond redo. The Blue Gentian pond is also full. And unfortunately the pond will be refilled with this weeks warm up.

Haven’t heard of pipe issues since the issues at the summit a few weeks ago. Snowmaking seemed to go as planned on Magic Carpet “through the woods”(now open), and is ongoing today on Lower Magic Carpet, with “middle” carpet done.

On the naturals, I found the upper mountain, at least until early afternoon, still had cold snow with no melting affect. Lower down it had warmed yesterday and was tougher to ski. The groomers, however, were hero snow all day. I was happily surprised Twilight Zone was open, and even though a challenge, was definitely skiable.

Hoping the immature snow today just helps consolidate a pretty decent base, and that tomorrow night we have a “net gainer”. If so, they are set up for the next storm.

They opened up the west side a bit today. I didn't know about it. It would have too adventurous for me as the overnight was unkind. Tonights storm looks vicious with a freeze up tomorrow. I think I'll fire up the garage woodstove, tune some skis and do other shop work unless I see a miracle in the morning.

Very busy at Magic today, which is good to see. The opened up Trick with whales which was fun. New snow continued all day.
Yes, it was good to see a busy mountain and all lifts turning. I was surprised to see all of trick open for whale skiing. Last time I remember it was top only. Mountain skied great today. I just got home.

You buy a pass full well knowing how they operate (which isn't continuous 7 days a week). If you don't like that model, don't buy into it. Simple as that.
Yea but they do advertise that they will open for powder days during the week when there is 6+ in. I understand there running a business and private rentals are part of that but it's disappointing that there's no powder day for a storm that's supposed to be 1 ft+. No employees to open Tuesday is a bummer. I was there for a powder day last year and overheard some long time lift operators who were not happy having to work on there day off, something like "if management wants to open for a powder day they can run the lift I have things to do". They shouldn't advertise that they will open for powder days if they can't deliver, I'm with Hastur I don't know if it's worth buying a pass anymore

While that certainly sucks, it's not like they knew there was a storm coming when they booked the private party and they definitely need the money.
how much to rent for a day? 5-7.5k?

guarantee they lose that much in pass money next year from this. 1.5k from this family.

id much rather see them just follow the pico schedule and ditch the powder day opening bs. But whatever.

pico does mountain rentals too, but they never promise to be maybe open if it snow tues and wed.

not salty, I’ll find a different place to go. Probably pico

it just will impact my future spending habits there.

btw, it’s just one of many things that irk me about operations there but again, whatever. I wouldn’t dare post it here

the fact they can’t open Tuesday for passholders is a bit of a bummer Though. Not feeling the vibes there

Would be nice if the private rental contract had a clause that passholders get to ski that day if they get 6 inches. Maybe with some money back to the renters.

lifts close Sunday Pm.

magic not open Monday - ok

6+ inches will fall by Tuesday 6am.

Weird how they can find enough employees to open for private rentals on Monday and Wednesday, but not for public powder day in between on Tuesday. Maybe there are limited operations, requiring fewer employees, for private rental ?

the privates are prob booked far enough in advance that theyve been staffed for a while already. i agree its bs, but thats 'why' i bet. private also probably operates with less staff.

Like Hastur said they should do like Pico and other small areas and say they operate Thursday to sunday. It's bs saying they will open for powder days when there not opening for 12-18 in.

Another thing that's bs is when they close the west side before the rest of the mtn
