conversely, you cant promise powder day openings and not be open to the public this Tuesday.

I partially agree. Their wording does not "promise" it and instead says it is simply a possibility (but I think going forward they should just drop this entirely):

"Magic may open for a Powder Day on a Monday- Wednesday if a 6"+ storm hits and we have no Private Mountain Rentals scheduled, totally at our own discretion, and only if we have enough staffing to operate safely and fully."

In all honesty, I would rather they didn’t do powder days. I feel like it’s all people that ski elsewhere and come track up the main mountain before I can get there along with a lot of the other regulars.
if they dropped the powder day openings, and just opened thurs-mon like pico, that would be ideal but I guess it won't work money wise.

I dont think its kosher to advertise powder day openings and not open on powder days

I wonder what percentage of pass holders are actually pissed about being unable to ski there this week. There's an obvious conflict between powder day openings and private rentals and Magic gambled that it wouldn't bite them in the ass from a PR perspective.

How many bites are they actually getting on the pr front from it?

Was at Black Line Tavern Saturday Talked to a guy who worked in marketing for Magic. He said that the mountain rents for $10000.00/day. 1 lift (Red). Price goes up if you want to use Black Told us 1 guy rented it for this Monday back in the fall. Said they would never rent it on a weekend.

BLT is a fun place and love the Magic vibe

My crew was hoping for Magic on Tuesday. Oh well, we have Indy, not passes. We'll ski on pass Tuesday and hit Magic Thursday. It should still be great. Living in Southern NH a Magic pass is a tough sell.

and I've been a passholder every year since the new regime and they have always opened for powder days.

in this case, they have decided to allocate their labor to private rentals as opposed to passholders. I would imagine the private rental contracts have tighter legalese so they must perform or send a refund.

Noted for future pass purchases there. I thought i was buying a product that I obviously wasnt.

also its one thing to have a handful of private rentals like in years past. but based on their calendar of private rentals booked, they have basically eliminated the possibility of any powder day openings for the rest of the year.

enjoy the powder today everybody.

Skiing was great yesterday and it was empty.

They should just be honest with the situation and say we're open Thursday to sunday, no more powder day openings because of an increase in private rentals.it definitely sounds like many people are bummed out there not opening for a powder day.
I'll still go to magic, I love skiing here and always have a good time but I don't know If I need to keep buying a pass. I might just buy a few day tickets a year when conditions are good. The powder day openings aren't the only reason, there's lots of small stuff that they do that is annoying. Like yesterday black line looked great, patrol marked all the hazards but said it won't open til tomorrow, when there not open for the public.
Going to killington today should be a good one

Black Line was not skiable yesterday (Sunday) even at days end with 4” of new, however enticing it looked (I was tempted, but knew better). Patrol was prepping due to the anticipated snow Sunday night which would then make Black Line skiable. They weren’t “saving it” for the private rental.

Goniffs skied great, black was fully covered with a solid base before it started snowing. I've definitely skied it on less in the past
