Mess on 93 South last night?

Hopefully anyone in the accidents is ok. I saw a Ford truck/SUV flip over into the median about 200 yds in front me, scary stuff. There was some nasty black ice as well. Lots of spin-outs. Anyone else get stuck in the traffic?

I went to get takeout for dinner last night around 7, after the rain, followed by those micro-bursts snows came through. The road tracks were sheer ice and the road crews were no where to be seen. Kinda funny to watch this Lexus SUV spinning all four wheels while sliding sideways, stopped by the curb. It was only funny because he was going all of about 5mph and there was no chance of anyone getting hurt or any damage being done. It was a perfect example of very expensive tools in the hands of the un-trained.

I just drove on the snow.

We came down I93 yesterday afternoon. Traffic around Cannon was a mess, then some slippery roads, then things were fine till we got down past Boston. Roads in South of Providence were pretty nasty. I'm betting we missed some nasty stuff further North.

Drove down from Pinkham on Rt 16 Sunday night. Accidents all the way from Intervale to Somerville, mostly people sliding on black ice. The off ramps were particularly nasty.

Between exit 9 and 8 on Route 89 in VT I saw 3 cars off the road. Two SUV's and 1 pick up truck. Conditions were bad however after that it improved with just on occasional snow squeal.

Yeah, 93 South in Franconia Notch was a mess. Some sort of accident involving an 18 wheeler in the northbound lane.

saw the same thing. 93 wasn't that bad when I went through, but it was very close to being horrible. Fortunately, everyone kept their speed under control and there were no problems.

And it was so icy on 91 that it didn't really matter what tires anyone had, the only thing that would have made a difference would have been studded tires.

I wasn't there this time, so you can't blame me. Last year, yes, but not this year.

My KMart to Portsmouth, NH drive was pretty uneventful. I pulled up the NEXRAD weather radar images so I had a pretty good idea what I'd be seeing for road conditions along my route. I waited for all the tourons to leave and started driving around 6:15. It was slow with near-blizzard conditions for the first 15 miles down the Killington Access Road and on Route 4. By the time I hit Woodstock, the snow quit and the roads were clear.

I hit a snow squall on I-89 around New London and had to back off for 10 miles. All told, it was a 20 minute delay. Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60's make the drive pretty low stress. It took a few back & forth shots to back out of my parking spot but that's the only place I had traction issues.

I had people tell me the I-91 route down to Connecticut was a disaster if you left early. If you went west of the Green Mountains from Killington, the snow stopped a few miles west of Rutland.

The bus we where on from Killington was sliding back down the hill as we watched cars sliding off it. About 7 hours to get home.
