Every statistic is referenced. She doesn't get into the politics of the materials economy, but she certainly puts it right on your plate. Nothing new or ground breaking, just a very concise overview of how our (collective) exsistance affects places like the congo, somalia, haiti, latin america ect.

I watched about 2 minutes of it, then got annoyed by her condescending preachiness. Not denigrating the material, just the delivery.

Not suprised. Haven't met many people ready to confront the reality of the american lifestyle. I found her to be kind of like a house mom.

Hmm..... her style doesn't turn me off, only her political comments. IMO, she could have made her point without them, which btw I agree with, we are a nation of consumers. And the sad part is we don't have to be that way.
Second btw, you can make similar arguments in the way we (over) consumes meats. The way we clear out land, consume water, pollute waterways and add to greenhouse gas equivalents just to sustain or meet our livestock production is a mind opener.

I agree with you guys. The topic she is trying to educate the public on is important. I just wish the message was delivered by a more dynamic and less annoying person. I tuned her out after two minutes but didn't bother to turn it off until 10 minutes later. Her voice/delivery ended up sounding like white noise to me.
I watched about a minute before shutting it off...
I'm sure there's some good info in there, I just couldn't do it...

It may be the most important information ever, but no one will get the message if the mesenger makes their skin crawl.

Kind of sad that most are getting effected by the messenger and not the message. I would hate to be the bearer of bad news.

Not sad. Entirely normal.
The environmental orgs are finally figuring out that people don't respond well to being browbeaten. Images of falling trees and animals in cages provoke a negative response that usually gets attached to whatever logo appears after the images. I always figured Greenpeace would be more effective if they changed their tune from "Save the whales" to "Save the humans." The one commercial with the guy standing on teh train tracks saying he doesn't care, global warming won't affect him, then stepping off the tracks to reveal the little girl is highly effective- don't clean up your act because a newt you've never heard of is dying. Clean it up because it's going to kill your kids.
As for this particular video, the reaction here doesn't surprise or sadden me one bit. We are, as a group, a bit more environmentally aware than standard, and are, to one extent or another, aware of this information, and are probably doing our small part about it. Unfortunately, the video fails on several levels. We are most likely to be receptive of the message, but the delivery turns us off. People who aren't aware of the issue are also less receptive of the message itself, and particulary less receptive of the delivery style.
Again, the information is good and important. The delivery is bad. Good information + bad delivery = no message. Conversely (and perhaps perversely), bad information + good delivery = strong message. Just look at {insert favorite commercial/social/political bugaboo here}.
