Talked to my son a medical professional in Manhattan last nite > He may NEVER ski again . A 3 sport ALL East athlete in college and Marathoner was unable to ski more than 3 times this past year due to a severe Morton's Neuroma issue and apparantly all conservative treatments have failed .

It s NOT getting better even after cortisone and since he has had some nerve related surgery that was less than sucessful in the past he is RELUCTANT to try surgery for this issue given only an 80 % sucess rate with possiblity of real side issues He had what was deemed successful nerve related surgery on his salivary gland that frankly is now worse than before surgery .

He told me last he had to quit running after ONLY 3 miles from serious pain . This is a guy who has run for over 25 years was ALL State XC and track athlete in HS and ALL East in University . He is a sub 3 hr Marathoner in NYC marathons several times and in the 1% body fat catergory and now his son is following in his footsteps asa multi-sport athlete at 14 and is a VERY good skier like his dad

I'm bummed about it -- this was one of life's special joys to ski with your adult kids and grandkids . guess i''l lbe taking his kids skiing myself when they are here they and there cousins .

Wow, sorry to hear that. My dad is getting to the age (78) where skiing is getting tough for him. He gets vertigo unless conditions are perfect. I need to make sure I get out with him this winter.

What is Morton's Neuroma?

LOAFER -- DO IT MAN and DO IT OFTEN AS POSSIBLE -- BELIEVE me when i say this is the stuff that will make your DAD's QUALITY OF LIFEand HIS SPIRITS _______SOAR

And some day when he is no longer present you can take him spiritually for a ride on the back of your skis on some beautiful trail

--I OFTEN reflect like this about my own father when i'm skiing alone and heading down some absolutely beautiful trail My mind and spirit think "jump on Dad --You're gonna luv this one !! "

Real sorry to hear news like this WP.Does this condition affect him due to activity on his legs? This might sound creepy but I have a couple friends that are paralyzed and love using their sitski equipment.

Sorry to hear that Warp. While you're bummed, It's got to be much more difficult on your son. How is he handling it? At this point in my life, I try to treat every day out as my last. You just never know what will happen. Enjoy life while you still can. I think he will be happy to know that you are getting out with his young-uns.

Thank you we are also .

Bilski he's handling it as well as can be expected

Sik its a swelling of teh nerves usuallu causing a very painful BUMP usually between teh 3rd and 4th toe . women often get this from wearing high heels BUT it is also a situation Often affecting skiers . TOO tight boots

Do you think he could take up snowboarding? Does it only get aggravated by the ski boots or is the damage done and any tight footwear is a problem?

WD, I'm sending good vibes to your son and the ones who love him. I sense he probably has your spirit and will find a positive way around this.
At least it sounds like he is in excellent physical health otherwise, which only helps.

I am POSITIVE this will only turn out for the best... skiing is big, but only part of life, and that he has plenty of left.

Good vibes...

Unfortunately the snowboard boots are NOT an option ---------------------so we are exploring other alternatives for winter fun with him . Perhaps Toboganning maybe even XC skiing ( he used to do that before as a training alternative) and XC boots are softer and less restrictive . Another adrenelin junky hobby could be Ice Boat racing here on the ST. Lawrence River . I have several other ski buddies my age who are into that -- it's crazy fast !!!!
