The race is confirmed for Saturday, January 17th. I'll be there. Anyone interested PM me and I can send along the details. 8:00 registrations with a 9:10 start.

I was going to do it until I found out that you need to buy a lift ticket. Sorry but there is no way I'm paying $45 to ski Berkshire East. It sucks since I did really want to do the race.

ditto. Would have done it for free. Maybe even if we got a discounted rate. Or signed some waiver of liabilty. But I'm not going to pay that much to not ride the lift. bummer since I like what Jonathan is doing and would like to support it. Just hard to justify alpine prices for the pain train, especially when I 'm not really interested in the racing aspect.

Once you're done with the race, you can ski the rest of the day with the lift ticket, so not really all for nothing. I agree a discounted rate would be nice, but the racing portion is free, so no cost there. Either way this recent snow and maybe more this week will spruce up conditions so it wouldn't be all for not. In my mind it's all about getting out, meeting other people who are into the whole earning turns scene in Western MA and having a friendly little competition. I'm looking forward to it.

i kinda feel rando racing is to touring as power walking is to walking. turning something into a competition that souldn't be competitive.
My big issue with rando racing is WAY TOO MUCH emphasis on the UP and not enough on the DOWN. Light weight racers should be seriously penalized on the down to the point that wearing two buckle boots and 60mm width skis is too much of a penalty for all but the most masochistic. I don't know how it can be incorporated since it is a time based event. The down route would have to be extremely technically challenging to do much of anything.

Additionally, I think they need a third division for the "community" which should involve no entry fee (but no posted time or goodies). The idea of paying any money (let alone a lift ticket) is asinine for earning turns. I would love to do such an event as a community member. I might even kick in a few bucks to support the cause but right now the "cause" is too focused on an extremely limited segment of the population and doesn't have much to offer to the average turn earner.
