Date: 4-10-09 And a Good Friday it was :)

Resort: Mount Snow

Conditions: Bluebird sky until around noon, then high thin clouds filtered in during the afternoon. Temps from around 30 at 8AM warming to the mid 50's by afternoon, light wind throughout the day. PERFECT corn snow "growing" weather! Coverage is anywhere from wall to wall deep on some fan gun trails, to melted out on some of the main mountain natural trails. *Most* Northface natural trails are still skiable, and skiing well, although the bottom run out of Olympic is melted out :(

Report: Classic later spring day today! A few ungroomed trails roped off until around 10:30/11 for softening. The main mountain was corning up wonderfully by 1st chair and due to the multiple corn cycles we've had now, alot of the surface moisture has been draining well and even during the afternoon, the "sticky snow" was very limited! Light crowd on the main mountain/northface, moderate crowd at Carinthia with some re-opens at Carinthia and some reconfiguring of the features in some of the parks. In honor of Euler and his collarbone, I even made a run through BOTH 1/2 pipes ;) (Rest assured, Tanner Hall and Simon Dumont need not fear my 1/2 pipe skills!)

Run wise, Plummet, edge to edge, corn GS arc bliss

Freefall, just as sweet as Plummet!

Challenger, a few spots you need to be a bit carefull of, but some sweet, big bumps!

A little before 11, patrol dropped the ropes on Skyline/Jaws/Ripcord, and with my 1st run down Jaws, I knew where I'd spend the bulk of the rest of the day!

Jaws uptop

Mid-section of Jaws

I probably ended up with close to 10 laps of Jaws today :) Just alot of fun with nicely sized, spaced bumps, great corn and a few sections where you got to play "thread the needle"(atleast if you like your bases;) )

Ended up with a big 'ol high speed trench laying GS run down Snowdance in some nice corn about 3PM

Just a really nice day of spring skiing! :)

Resort: Office Conference Room

Conditions: Unbearable

Report: I sat in a conference room for most of the day. The florescent lighting was great until noontime and then we had to adjust the blinds to filter out the annoying sunshine on our computer screens. I did have a couple of runs the men's room, but we won't go into those details here. Lunch was a very good Greek Salad I kept a window open with Mount Snow's live webcams hoping to spot DrJeff and a couple of funky helmeted kids, but never saw them. It appears that he was spending his time on Jaws and the halfpipes. The only saving news of the day is that training ended at 2:12, instead of 4:00 pm. I rushed home, picked up the wife and kids and we made it to Vermont by 5:30.

DrJeff, I was very envious today. I'm glad you had a great day. Hopefully the weekend makes up for it.

I too hit the office conference room from 10:00 to 5:30. Opened windows around 3:00 to hear the birds and get some fresh air. Broke up the day with laps to the bathroom and occassonal client mini-conferences. No computer hookup... and was other wise busy. Was distracted most of the day pondering whether I should blow off Sat. family obligations to take up the HS ski off invitation. While I'm not much of "mine is bigger guy" (for good reason), if it gives me an excuse to ski, I would take it if I could. Than I saw the picture and opted for yardwork and prepping for the big Easter crowd and egg hunt.

And what is this about Mt. Snow only "possibly" opening next weekend, and if opening, only on Carinthia? Base on Free fall and Canyon/stnadard that suspect?

Quite simply put, it's all about late season economics! The last few weeks, the volume at Carinthia has been noticeably more than on the Main Mountain/Northface, and I'd bet that this would be the case from here on out. They'll plow down one of the parks and turn it back into a "skiers" trail and bring the BBQ grills over to the Carinthia deck and you've got a nice pod of self contained terrain accessable off 1 lift and from 1 lodge. Plus, while some of the main mountain/Northface trails have a TON of coverage, you're going to loose some key connectors sooner than later (Deer Run from the summit to Carinthia for one, plus, Most of the Exhibition/Lodge route will be done soon, as well as Ridge/Meadow.).

No doubt in my mind after seeing them today that atleast the Upper Canyon/Standard and also Snowdance routes have a few weeks of snow left on them(as long as its not 70 degrees and rainy) and Plummet, Freefall, Chute and Fallen Timbers also have a few weeks of snow coverage, but then you're looking at running a minimum of 3 lifts out of 2 seperate base areas when realistically the majority of their income producing, day ticket buying guests will be at Carinthia

I was gonna go today, but woke up feeling sick so I'm going tomorrow. Did it rain hard up there tonight?

Nope, just a bit of light stuff - enough to wet the ground, but barely enough to get any water to form something resembling a puddle in the low spots in the parking lot outside my place.

36 and cloudy @ 7AM here, the cloud level is basically at the top of the Nitro/top of Canyon level right now. Local NWS radar has all the remianing "green stuff" well off the the South and not tracking this way

Did you get up there today Jeff? Another great day. I think I might've saw Loafer and his son at one point from the lift but never saw them again.
