What about Utah????

Been there, done that several years ago. I will not argue that it is probably the best skiing in the country, GF does not really want to live there. I kind of agree, there are other places I'd rather be in the summer plus SLC is kind of a weird (yet somehow fun to visit) town. I want water, mountains, and a more progressive culinary scene.

If I lived in Tahoe I would probably rent which can be done reasonably I think. I'm not totally obsessed with the idea of home ownership or even wealth for that matter. Just want to have fun.

I had real trouble with pet restrictions not allowing cats when looking for rentals in South Lake/Stateline. Just an FYI. Also note that in South Lake, the real attraction is Casino gambling, so be ready for the associated drawbacks

The south shore is changing rapidly now that they've bulldozed a ton of the cheap motels to make way for the new developments. Don't know if I like the high-end, exclusive vibe that is replacing the prior seediness, but its definitely changing.

If I were living there, I'd find somewhere on the north side. Much better mountain-town vibe and probably better recreational options all around.

They tore those motels down (in a two-block radius) two years ago, but have run into financial issues. Most of the 70's/80's motels behind the area that was torn down, still remain and the ski bum vibe is more than alive and well.

For first time visitors it's hard not to think of the casinos as the center of attention, but I barely notice them, other than structurally now. There are some really great restaurants around and fantastic local hangouts/pubs like McP's, Mott Canyon Grill, and Murphy's Irish Pub.

From sleigh rides, snowmobile trips, ice skating, movies, and sledding for the kids and tons of live music and bars for the adults, South Lake is more overall activities going on, but Tahoe City on the North Shore is more quaint.

If were going to live there, it would be a tough decision, but Tahoe City has a great appeal. The same can be said for the south shore. It really depends what you're looking for. Nonetheless, you'll have Tahoe Today for 3 hours everyday on TV and Todd Offenbacher is nothing short of hilarious!

Reluctant to leave Colorado now, still like it here a lot. Looking real hard at Summit County now, specifically Breckenridge area. Either way we will be close to a good mountain...somewhere.

I lived in Breck and Dillon for two years then decided to move to Tahoe at Squaw. No comparison Tahoe rocks, skiing is way better, weather rules, and way more to do in the summertime at the lake. Never looked back to Colorado. Plus you're only 3 hours away from San Francisco if you get bored of the mountains.

I spent last winter in Tahoe (and have if it wasn't for my finace I would still be there). I love it there.

It's awesome. So many mountains to choose from, it's never cold (skiing in 20 degrees there is considered cold) and when it snows it dumps! I got a day with over 5 feet of powder.

I lived in South Lake (on the Nevada side). Skied Heavenly weekdays, Kirkwood Sundays and travelled around on Saturdays and loved it.

I am in negotiations right now with the wife to be about moving out there full time. Never lived in Colorado but Tahoe is awesome and Nevada has no income tax and property taxes in Nevada are a joke compared to what you pay in New York.

I told my wife I wanted to live on the South Shore... Suffice to say that 2 weeks a year is what I get, but I'm damned grateful to get those two weeks. The best of the year, for sure.

We ran into a great opportunity to lease a well maintained Inn in the mountains here in Colorado and just couldn't pass it up-low risk, hot tub, ect......

I will start an official spam thread when it's up and running. Tahoe will have to wait for now.......
