According to this article management has said that it won't comment any further about any sale or any prospective parties. The newspaper lists two parties--Hank Greenberg ("I had the money, but now I don't") and Intrawest (thought they were on the verge of bankruptcy?!).

Staff are being told not to worry about their jobs. Townsfolk don't seem too concerned...

"“I wouldn’t think (a sale) would have any effect unless they decided not to operate a ski resort,” said Ed Stahl, executive director of the Stowe Area Association, Stowe’s marketing entity."

GOLD IS DISCOVERED AT SPRUCE PEAK
Initial core samples conducted as part of a sales offer have revealed a 2-mile vein of gold has been discovered under Spruce Peak Mountain according to an undisclosed informant to this paper. With that information, Bushy Brothers Mining Corporation submitted the winning bid of $4B, which was accepted by AIG yesterday. George H. W. Bush of Texas, president of Bushy Brothers indicated that he has tendered $4B in cash this morning to AIG, and papers have passed. "We have already begun to mobilize equipment to the region. The Spruce Peak shack and the summit-to-base cables will be demolished immediately."

Mr. Bush, formerly President of other U.S. Based-concerns successfully completed projects in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to his biography.

Losing bidders included the Nigerian Insurance Fund, Trump Oil Ventures and Alpine Zone M&A ventures.

Already opportunists have arrived, bringing with them new problems for Stowe's finest to deal with.

They're pretty paranoid about the whole thing from AIG's perspective.

Yes, Trailboss Realty is handling this gem. And no, we cannot accept the $10 bid.

$99.99 or three easy payments of $66.66.

Greed runs deep on Wall Street. I have zero sympathy for any of the players.

Oh and yes. I don't see Greenies "cottage" on the map. I'm sure GSS would be willing to give Hank a price break on a modest sized mausoleum.

$99.99 buys you a burger and fries at the new Spruce Mountain Lodge! Surely we can do better than that!
