My laptop at home is on its last leg and was wondering between the two what I should go with. Basically going to use it for personal use internet, email and sometimes will need to access a remote server for work.

What I have now was the cheapest Gateway that I could find four years ago and has served its purpose just fine. Looking to keep it under the $500.

Anyone comments on the netbooks or is it worth the couple extra dollars to get an actual laptop computer?

Just recently purchased a netbook because I wanted something small to do the basics on. I would have gone with a laptop if it was my primary PC, however.

Looked quick at those, start at $1k

Apple is coming out with somekind of netbook/tablet thing in the next couple of months. Should be in the $500 range. Not that it does you any good now.

We just bought a sub $500 about a month ago. I "think" it's this one?

Staples was running it on sale and we had the rebate. I think when all was said and done, it was under $400. My wife has been using it at home mostly for interweb on a wireless connection. She's been home recovering from ACL surgery. I've used the laptop a bit myself. It works great! No complaits at all. It zips along just fine on the interweb, pages load nicely and the big screen is sweet.

It comes with Vista which my wife and I have never used before. I've yet to figure out why people went so bugshit over this OS and how "terrible" it allegedly is. It's pretty much like windows...but slighly different. I had look for the control pannel. It took me 45 seconds the first time...instead of the usual 7. BFD. I spent about 30-45 minutes playing around and found everything I needed and created shortcuts. Unless Windows 7 makes us dinner, I don't even know if we'll bother upgrading.

Vista is a pig on my PC at home...after doing everything I could shy of reformatting the drive and reinstalling the OS (virus scans, spyware scans, malware scans, disk defrag), it still runs slow. Worked great at first...

I'd go laptop... I HATE typing on netbooks... just can't get used to it... but it's up to you to decide what you want to do.

I swiped an acer laptop off of newegg a few months ago (it was like $249 or $349) and it has been good to me so far... Keep an eye on their site, they have all kinds of 'daily deals' I signed up for the email newsletter and that's where I found my laptop.

Do you have a free trail disc you can send me?

Will I have to clean my cache out everyday with those too?

:)

You get a free version of Netscape... i hear Microsoft is releasing a WWW Browser soon... i wonder if it will be as good as Netscape or Mozilla..

Get a netbook only if you're looking for the extra mobility. You can get full laptops for equivalent prices, they'll just be heavier, larger, and have shorter battery lives, but be far better in terms of everything else.

I like Vista. Just need a newer PC than you can get away with than the practically stone age XP.
