Pants down or up? New fashion or stupid?

Maybe I am getting old and a bit crotchedy but I just can't stand those early teens with their ski pants belted down around their thighs and their underwear'ed ass hanging out all over the mountain. It makes absolutely no sense to me and looks dumb as hell. I guess if they smear Chapstick all overtheir ass they might stay warmer.

Your thoughts? Am I the only one who thinks this? Overreacting?

My thought is - stupid. It looked stupid for years as a general fashion and it looks stupid on the mountain too.

I think it looks stupid as hell, but I'm not that young anymore, so I don't really know what's up.

I think the trend might be shifting back, though. I saw a bunch of hipster goth kids at this concert that my wife dragged me to the other night (AFI), and they were all wearing tight pants . . . Like, sperm count lowering tight . . .

I propose a compromise . . . Bring back tight stretch pants for skier chicks, and allow snowboarders and other idiots to continue wearing ridiculously baggy pants with their undies hanging out.

I just thought it was because a good portion of the youth in the parks/pipe these days are aspiring to be plumbers ;)

How about skier chicks can wear TIGHT stretch pants, MALE snowboarders need to keep the baggy board pants upto waist level, and FEMALE snowboarders can wear the baggy board pants ridiculously low with their undies hanging out ;)

gangsta style
And so 8 years ago.

President Obama said it best: "Brothas should pull up their pants." And so do those that imitate a lame ass fashion statement in the name of rebellion. I feel for the kiddies these days... it is so hard to rebel any more against the status quo. Kids these days have parents AND grandparents that were drugged out hippies, listened to that crazy rock and roll, and grew their hair out long, amongst so much more. What can you do to piss off the parental units these days? I just wish kids would have a little more creativity than apping gangsta style. And same goes for ski design because fake premade graffiti is soooo cutting edge.

Now that I'm thinking about it, how about those park rats wearing a bandana over the lower half of their face on a WARM spring day. WTF is that?!

Yep. I think it's becoming trendy to look gay.....not that there's anything wrong with that...

 The saggy pants trend definitely seems to have been around a while....

I hate it, call me an old fashioned 31 year old. I have a pact set with friends that is the EVER see my so wearing big black baggy jeans, a xxxxxl white tee shirt and a flat brimmed facy baseball cap on they have my permission to stop, beat the crap out of him and make him walk home in his bvd's. I will make my so dress a certain way when in public, if he doesn't like it get a job. I don't care if he turns into a dirty wookie wearing patchwork underwear, just don't come home with your ass hanging out or balck jeans so tight you can see his boys, that rock glam shit bugs me too.

Oh yeah... don't forget the tall-t's. They're almost as bad as the pants around the ankles.

Frankly, as a totally out-of-place member of the worst-offending generation (as it relates to this topic), I believe wholeheartedly that it comes down to a lack of respect, for themselves and for everyone around them. We all have our individual faults and weaknesses, but my entire generation seems to generally lack respect. Parents' fault? Yep. Kid's fault? Yep. Teachers' fault? Yep. Everyone has a part in this one.

I have no tolerance for disrespect. It makes me ILL. Literally.

Speaking of which, what is the logic behind using words which, by their very definition, mean precisely opposite the meaning one wishes to convey? For example, "That was sick!" or, "ill, man!" or, "doooooooood.... that run was STUPID gnar!" when referring to something "good." I don't get it.

Some of my friends at the college called me "dad." An allusion, I believe, to my mannerisms, which tend to reflect the behavior and values of someone about 3 times my age  . Oh well... I'm happy to keep skiing bumps and telling the yipper-snappers to pull up their pants. I've always been a little "different" (interpret that as you'd like  )

You know... I was about to say I hope these kids grow up and look back on their fashion choices with the embarrassment of those that lived through the 70s and 80s. But then I remembered that these are the same kids relishing in the "glory" of the 80s and "bringing it back." I can understand people being caught up in the moment and being followers and taking after the current fad. But there really is no hope for those that can not distinguish good taste from bad in hind sight. So we all better get used to this cause these trends are likely to continue long past the point when the saner generations are dead and these folks are still walking around looking like ass holes when they need a cane to stand.

Sorry if that sounds judgmental or anything. :D

In my comment 'gangsta style', I did not make it clear that I think that fashion statement is completely stupid. It looks foolish. So do the tight jeans. So did bell bottoms.

As to whether it's disrespectful? I disagree......kinda. The only thing disrespectful about such styles, whether it's low slung pants, tight ass jeans, multiple piercings all over your face, dreadlocks, etc, etc, is that kids do it despite disapproval from adults/parents. I don't know if I'd call that disrespectful towards anyone though because of the basis for it. It's less an FU to adults than it is a desire to be accepted amongst peers.

It's 100% about fashion. About being accepted in whatever way you are looking to be accepted. The common excuse for an alternative style is, 'I just want to express my individuality'. No you don't. You want to be accepted by a certain group of people because it might benefit you professionally, socially, sexually......whatever. That comment is ageless and true of all 'life styles'.

We all do it in one way or another, it's just some segments of society do it more so to a laughable vanity level; particularly young people. It's not disrespect, it's just different priorities. I want to be the most popular kid in class, I want to get laid by as many girls as possible. Some people just take it to greater extremes than others.

That all said, I have no problems telling someone that I think they look like an idiot based on their fashion choices, low slung pants being one of them

Wearing low slung gansta pants for a youngster is really no different in psychology than an adult putting on a business suit.
