Heck, my 'home' mountain this Winter is the mighty Ragged. Why? great price: $329, decent trees, no crowds and at 1:25 minutes, I can go ski there on a Saturday morning, get in 12-15 runs and be home by 2 to spend the afternoon with the wife.

Ragged is a great spot (so it seems)! And a legit destination spot. LUCKY YOU! If I ever spend a weekend @ the lake house (Winnepesaukee) this winter, Ragged is about an hour for me. Never been. It's on my list.

I'm still a noob, last season was my first, so I'm using it as a way of progressing quickly (or quicker) this season. Let me get up there, hopefully, a couple nights a week, work on my abilities. Getting bored of the terrain isn't so much of an issue for me, because there are areas that I want to work on, and I think I can do that at Wawa.

TIme on snow is the key and Wa's terrain is perfect for getting comfortable. Plenty of easy trails gives you a little variety while you build your confidence.

If you haven't done so....consider buying the 5-pack of group lessons for $69. They're good for two seasons! Most folks shy away from group lessons so anything more than "beginner"...you're likely to get a private or semi-private lesson.

One point per lesson could really boost you. And no, I don't get a kick-back. At this point in your progress...getting a good pointer (or preventing a bad habit) can speed your progress. Also, if you go to Wa on a busy night...the lessons skip the lines...you go right to the lift. Great perk.

No pressure. No deadline Let me know if you are interested.

This was me two years ago.

The biggest one-day improvement I ever made with my skiing was when I skied with a few people from this board (Zand, Marc, Wa-Loaf, awf, and I think there was one or two more).

Wa is a great spot for doing what you want to do.

Enjoy it, and I'll probably see you there at some point this winter.

That was a fun day. I wonder if Marc has mastered his landing on the 1/2 pi radians yet...

I'd get bored pretty quickly skiing 10th Mountain, Smith Walton and Conifer. If they had good bumps, I'd ski there much more.

I'll second that or third it.....

Another thing thats gets old quick is the night time crowds. School kids hang out there until 8:00 pm or so. The place gets packed, there have been times where I had to get into my gear on the floor. Then you hit the crowds at the lifts..... they don't believe in the concept of sharing a ride up, they have to ride up in their own group so it gets bottleneck at times.

Hmm... I'm sounding like an old grumpy skier

:???: What night are you going? I've never really had any issues at night there. Once in a while the line is a little long. FYI boot up in the Coppertop, the kids can't really go in and there is always space when I get there between 5:30 and 6:30.

This will be my 3rd straight year with a silver pass. I tend to get 15-20 visits in. I don't even compare it to 'real' skiing but rather a better way to spend a winter weeknight than sitting on my ass at home.

We usually get a bunch of pre-xmas weekend mornings in, then its night skiing only from then on.

Its great for getting your form/skills back and you can get a ton of runs in quickly. Sure, I wish there was more terrain but I will get ~300k vertical ft there season for what, $270?

Nothing like getting there early on a sunday in december, lapping the summit chair til 12, then hitting the bar for a drink or two and a bit of football before heading home with a good chunk of day still left to do whatever.

That sounds pretty good actually. Was considering getting a lesson again, but that is a low cost for 5 lessons. How do the groups tend to form with skiers compares to snowboarders? I snowboard so I wonder if one group tends to be busier than the other.

Eeek! Snowboarders! :> Actually...I think snowboarders are less likely to take a lesson than skiers.

I can't recall ever seeing a "group" of snowboarders other than one or two in a beginner lesson (with my daughter).

Wa has the instructors on staff....they get paid (maybe a tad more for giving a lesson than to just sit in the hut or patrol or whatever else Wa has them doing). Also, they wouldn't put you in with a beginner group...it would be bad for biz...word of mouth travels fast. The "only" catch would be in the fine print (which I've read)...groups of three(?) or less (some small number) are considered private or semi-private and may be limited to 30 minutes vs 60 minutes.

In my experience with these coupons...I've had "private" lessons during wich the instructor and I were having so much fun...we went the entire hour. I tipped heavily afterwards.

A 30 minute private or semi-private lesson may be all you want (and/or need) anyway.

It's a good deal.

I still remember how my last lesson at Crotched ended up being a private because I wasn't a novice...got a whole hour and the instructor even refused my attempts to give him a tip.

Definatley get the pass! When I was going to Framingham State College a buddy of mine and I had a pass for Tuesday nights (yes, Wa-Wa had season passes for individual days some years ago!) and we went every week from mid December to when they closed. Well worth the $100!

I remember those days, I had Fridays off so I got the Friday day and night pass. I forget exactly how much they were but it was around $100.

Well I took the plunge and just purchased my Bronze Pass! Thank you also Sky for the insight towards the GPS rate too :) NOthing like unwinding while doing some night skiing at wawa... Nothing serious of course, but getting a few turns in always is good!
