From today's report.

The Gondola is currently on wind hold and the FourRunner Quad is closed for the day due to a mechanical issue.

The Lookout Double is scheduled to close at 2pm.

let's see, that leaves the double, triple and Spruce. Ouch!

The double, triple, and Spruce? The double on Mansfield is the Lookout double.

The FourRunner quad seems to be showing its age, as it does break down with seemingly increasing frequency. When was it put in? mid-80s sometime?

The gondola opened up around noon. Plenty of freshies to be had. They had to do an emergency evac on the quad....I've heard stories ranging from a chair derailment to the actual line snapping. Sensation quad and the double were the places to be. So much for getting an early start.

If the haul rope failed (which is highly unlikely) they wouldn't need to do an evacuation since everyone would have fallen to the ground. A chair coming off (and sliding down into the chair behind it) would be a pretty big deal too. Hopefully whatever happened wasn't too serious.

From skivt-l

"
Eyewitnesses said somehow a chair got into one of the wires which snapped
then recolied around another chair. Something like that anyhow. Damaged
chair, snapped cable, broken communiactions cable and a damaged lift tower.
Likely offline until Sunday. "

Forerunner was one of the first HSQ's on the east coast and IIRC was installed in 1986. In fact, it malfunctioned on the grand opening! It is very old technology as you know--one of the HSQ's with a cadence chain system like North Ridge at Sugarbush...and we all know that it has broken down before many times.

To be honest, I am quite surprised that with all the money invested in the ski area that they have not replaced Forerunner. It is probably the most important lift at the resort.

I heard Jay was on windhold much of yesterday also. That must suck having snow to ski on but no way to get there....

Around noon today this was posted:

The FourRunner Quad, Lookout Double & Sensation Quad are on hold due to a combination of winds and/or icing on the cables. The gondola just opened!

Looks like a bunch of new snow for this AM, but windy conditions too.

Here's the beta from Saturday:

" i skied 4 runs on little spruce. 20-30 minute liftlines, 3 minute runs. not an epic day. biggest liftlines i've ever seen."

This is from someone who spends his days on Mani. He's being pretty kind. Hoping things improves by midweek.
Hope someone was handing out vouchers for another day...
