Hope it gets better! We don't want to see you changing your username to "hurtmyknee2" and then unloading all of your gear....

Ultrasound is being used more and more for diagnosis these days. It's actually a pretty cool use of it. Has to be better than an x-ray, which is useless for ligament injuries. MRI would be the best, probably, in diagnosing but isn't cheap so if you don't need one, don't push for it.

Take it easy and I hope it works out okay for you.
Yup took the day off from work, although I am going to try to get a referral to have someone in sports medicine to look at it. Also to see if I can get a MRI done just to be on the safe side.

good to hear!

heal swiftly
Will do! I plan to be out on the snow next season leaner and meaner! I expect to hit 25 days next year!

Glenn, not to worry... I would never give up my love of skiing because a bit of knee discomfort. Instead i will be planning to drop some weight, build muscle mass... and be out at Sunday River in October for the first turns of the season!

MRI is best. Both my girlfriend and I have slightly torn Meniscus..I'm getting it operated on in May. It only hurts when I stand up, yet doesn't hurt when I ski..weird.

Hey Bostonian...sorry to read about your knee.

Hope it clears up quickly.

My knee swelled up a few weeks ago, but I don't have a definite cause...just some obvious insults added together.

Worked out Monday (a version of lunge included)...elitptcal Tuesday...very light upper body wts Wed, and hoops Thursday and Friday.

Friday night I noticed my knee was swollen. Saw the doc, got a PT referral...been twice (heat, electro-shock thingy, and advice on the workouts).

Word to the wise for you lunge-aholics. Be careful to keep your knee from going beyond your toes. PT says any weight you apply at and beyond that point of flex really compresses the knee cap.

Good one Glenn!

I had a similar situtation season before last. Only my right knee was hurting when I was skiing (and a little bit walking up stairs). Went to doc and he basically told me to strengthen the muscle mass above and below my knees and to lose weight.

I did both of those and had a kick-ass season this year. I plan to follow the same routine this off-season.

That certainly gives me hope! My appointment is at 3:15 at the Newton Wellesley Hospital with a sports medicine specialist. Wish me luck!

Yeah, good luck indeed. I also went to a sports medicine specialist who is on the NY Jets roster. In addition to x-ray/mri he did all sorts of range of motion tests on me before making the diagnosis that I was fat and out of shape

I hear that's the #1 skier malady. I suffer from it as well

My wife had a torn/blown maniscus and an ACL repair last July. She skied and an entire season this year. You'll be ready to rock when the snow flies again.

So update number 3....

The good news... No cartilage torn! So no need to operate! The bad news is some how I had a small break in my patella (I think that is what he said). So the bone is healing. So come October I will be ready for Sunday River! Woo hoo!
