I just got this link on Facebook and Jay has been voted as the best resort in the Northeast by OnTheSnow.com readers. Sugarloaf got dibs for best downhill terrain, Killington for best park, and Stowe for best nightlife.

No real surprises. Jay had a lot going for them this year, as did Sugarloaf. They got the snow and the attention. Jay is on a tear with their construction projects....25 years of pent up energy. They just completed the ice arena AND broke ground on the new Hotel Jay AND waterpark. Crazy......and some of us thought we'd never see the day!

Jay didn't get the snow this past season. At least not like they normally do. They did build a lot of non-skiing related stuff and built a nice hotel. It will be nice to see their attention turn to on slope upgrades such as the lifts this coming season.

I think it is fair to say that they got more snow than many others.....

It is very true to say that. But you can say that any and every year and it will always be true. A comparison to their average is a much better representation of how good of a year Jay had rather than how good of a year Jay has compared to other areas that only average half as much as what Jay averages. In other words, Jay's worst year is still better than almost any other New England area's best year with perhaps a dozen exceptions or so.

I've not been to Jay, but based on what I hear from people and online, they tend to say "Don't go to Jay if it hasn't snowed in the last 24". Which seems odd considering the amount of snow they get...is this true or just a stereotype of the area?

Odd. That is my motto except it is not specific to Jay.

I kid, I kid. Jay gets tracked out rather quickly but the skiing stays fine well after the snow falls and Jay is not as prone to rain/thaw cycles as many areas to its south, though it of course gets every rain/freeze/thaw cycle when they hit all of New England with no chance of any escape. The wind can make things rough at Jay sometimes and wind often follows the big dumps. But that is why Jay is known for its trees and not its groomers.

All kidding aside, I see no reason why someone would say that any more applies to Jay than to any other mountain.
