I go 9 miles an hour over the speed limit. I stay with my buddy that is just outside of town on the Jay side. 45 minutes tops from the village. May be longer getting back but I never paid attention to that.

Stowe anyone?

I have done it more than once. 35 minutes is the time. I think it is quicker to get to Jay than Sugarbush. I dont know that for sure though.
can be. route 100 south to Waterbury from Stowe gets worse and worse every year with increased traffic and development. They really need to put in a couple of passing lanes.
I wouldn't be surprised if 10 years from now that whole stretch is a 35mph zone. Sucks. Should be working to contain businesses in the villages of Stowe and Waterbury, not promote sprawl.

Bullsh*t.
Its 40 miles you poser. When you go in that direction you dont hit much traffic. You have to wiggle through one town and the rest is 50 MPH. Go early in the morning and no problems.
Going to sugarbush after you get south of stowe that road is cluster F. It takes for ever to get down to the highway.
Stick with K poser its where you belong.

What does winter have to do with it? 90% of the time in the winter the drives are the same.
I have done it half a dozen time. That is all.
are you traveling from George's place when you go from Stowe to Jay? I used to make it in 45 mins from there. I could see 35 with a faster car and not getting stuck behind anyone.
YUP and from there It seems shorter than Sugarbush. Its only what 2 miles out of town?
Not sure of the mileage, but let's call it 5 to 10 minutes. But yeah, it never took me an hour from there. I was driving a beat up Ford explorer at the time that I rarely took over the speed limit. 45 minutes was my average time to Stateside.

I always get a laugh out of the story of how for years and years Stowe had 48 trails. Then their marketing department got involved and "created" another 40 or so. Good conversation starter at the local watering holes.

When questioned about it, Stowe blamed it on Killington. They argued that they were losing business to Killington, who played the lower-mid-upper-crosscut name game.

The really ironic part about the Stowe trail count thing is that the three or so years preceding the switch, Stowe had been actively marketing the 48 trails as part of their brand identity. They had a program that encouraged skiers to ski all 48 trails, record them as they skied them, and rewarded them with a pin or patch or something like that for having skied all 48. If they had not been so aggressive with their "we have real trail counts and classic trails" marketing, I probably would not have batted an eye because every ski area is doing this.

Stowe and Killington get quite a few groups from Britain. Folks I know that work at Stowe told me the trail count was really hurting their ability too attract British tour groups. We all know that trail counts are not very meaningful but in the end it's a business that needs to be marketed.
This is correct. Lost British tour group business was the reason for the change

gdoan---If the snow is good DO NOT skip Smuggs!!! The terrain is worth whatever, if any, wait you may run into.....just sayin'
