Just missed the deadline for the Triple Major by 2 days (kicking myself right now). Seeing if it's worth paying $110 more (now $399) for the Triple Major or if I should get the 4NH (Cannon, Bretton, Waterville, Cranmore) for $289. Cannon is closer to me than Jay so that's also a plus (not to mention 93 is always in much better shape than 91 most of the winter), but I'm just concerned about the snow quality at Cannon most of the days. Bretton is also just over 45 mins from me so thats another bonus for windy days. Waterville and Cranmore aren't a factor for me (nor is Bolton on the Triple Major, but I really wanted to hit MRG lol). Also can get discounts at Jay with my Wachusett pass so that helps.

I'm leaning towards 4NH, but anyone want to try to help me decide?

Bummer on missing the deadline. It is all about what you want. When I lived in St. Johnsbury, I got a pass at Jay even though Cannon was closer and it is my favorite mountain. If you want to chase powder and ski trees consistently, its worth the money. If tree skiing and powder are not the only considerations, then the 4NH makes sense, especially having BW on wind hold back up. Both Cannon and BW both have great glades. They just don't get the snow. Season length... same start dates, Jay stays open later (one of the last to close last year). You don't get MRG with the 4NH though. I'd go with Cannon and BW for cruising and bumps over Jay but MRG is king of bumps.

Here is a question: When they were both the same price, you were going to go with the Triple Major, right? You just have to decide if the reasons you wanted to do the triple major are now worth $100 more. Are you in the market for the mountains you want to ski or the best/cheapest deal?

I was going for Triple Major and really looking forward to it, but I could use that $110 I'd save with 4NH and buy a Mad Card which would take care of missing out on MRG. I can ski Jay for $35 on weekdays with the Wawa pass so I can use that a couple times. I can really only get beyond Burke on weekends next semester anyway and Jay is a madhouse most weekends compared to Cannon. I really think 4NH is the best thing for me to do, then hit the others up for a few single days.

Thanks for your help... I was expecting you to be the first one to reply with Trailboss coming next lol.

I had the NH pass equivalent. Back then it was Cannon/Sunapee/Gunstock. Cannon is the only comparable resort to Jay and MRG, but with less snow. A lot less snow. I liked skiing at Cannon and it was nice. From LSC it is an easy drive.

I'd also be considering which pass compliments what you already have. Out of the NH resorts, none is really going to have a much longer season that Wachusett...maybe a couple weeks or so. And by and large WV, BW, and some of Cranmore are very similar to Wachusett. Honestly only Cannon is different and more challenging.

With the Triple Major, you'd be getting a longer season (potentially) and more expert terrain at MRG and Jay. You'd also be getting night skiing at Bolton Valley (but Cranmore and BW has night skiing...the former have more of it).

I love the perception of Jay as a Mad House on weekends. No one hates crowds more than me but I got a Jay pass three seasons in a row. Jay is only a mad house when the rest of New England is being skunked or when Jay gets an extremely isolated dump that misses the other areas along the spine of the greens.

I do feel the need to point out the flaw in your pricing logic. Once you buy a Mad Card, you have do have three tickets to MRG along with your pass, but you have already paid for your season pass putting your total higher than the Triple Major even with late rates. Add in a few $35s at Jay using your WaWa rate and you may be paying twice as much as your 4NH pass when you count all of your out of pocket that you will spend at MRG and Jay. The logical question is if you get the Triple Major instead of 4NH, how much will you spend skiing Cannon and BW?

I feel like those comments might be suggestive. There is no right answer here and it does not effect me nor am I playing favorites (Cannon is my favorite mountain). Just throwing out some devils' advocate. :D

I probably wouldn't get to either Cannon or Bretton at all... another thing with the Mad Card is that I would go once with 3 people and split the cost. I might pay like $150 for day tix on top of the pass, putting me about $40 over what I would pay for Triple Major (but who says I wouldn't buy other day tix with that pass as well lol).

Man this is a tough decision... but I guess being in this situation is a good thing. :)

Also for me to consider: Mittersill this year. Next year Jay puts in the new lifts. I'm really leaning toward 4NH. Decision to come within the next 2 hours or so. Definitely Triple Major next year though.

sounds to me that the $$$ isn't the concern

$110 is less than 3 days at Jay midweek. Isn't a Madcard like $99???

I'd go for the Triple Major and if you really want to ski Cannon, hit up a twofer day.

or.....if you've already got a Burke pass, don't get a pass anywhere else and chase Powder with the extra cash

When I was at LSC I got a Jay pass during the time they were reciprocal at Burke. Once that ended I got a Burke pass and the Cannon/Sunapee/Gunstock pass. With the Jay/Burke combo I found myself at Jay much more often than Burke at first, but found that I enjoyed Burke more and the short drive was an added plus. With the Cannon option I pretty much split my time between the two.

Well, I'm gonna go for the 4NH pass. Then Triple Major next year. I really just wanted to expand a bit... I love Cannon so I think that part of this will be good. If it's crappy, I have Bretton Woods as a safe backup (never been there... I hear they have some great low-angle glades). Don't think I'll get to Cranmore or WV, but if they get a big jackpot from a storm it's nice to have another 2 areas to check out. I also plan on getting a Mad Card (might ask for it for an early Christmas present or something lol) and then just get a couple day tickets to Jay. Really excited to have 3 areas within an hour on a season pass.

I think you can use your pass to ski Jay for $49 a day which is nice. Not as good as it used to be. I think I paid $30 two years ago but still $20 off the day ticket rate.

I can hit Jay for $35 on weekdays with my Wawa pass. Weekends are pricey but I don't be there on weekends anyway... Burke and Cannon will be better on a pass than paying $50 or whatever the weekend rate at Jay with a pass is.
