probably much cheaper to maintain/replace versus a subway. I wonder what the difference in capacity is between running a gondola vs a subway. Wonder how many people per hour the red line moves in Boston for example.

It doesn't state what the per hour capacity for the subway is, but does beat streetcars and buses in the capacity per hour dept.

I wonder how often cities would be closed due to "wind hold" ... ? LOL

guess it's not a good plan for Chicago. That's too bad. A gondy ride to the top of the Sears tower would be pretty cool.

Running a gondola up Spruce Peak and Down MaSterling would be cool. 1 Ticket 2 mountains. I can't see how that wouldn't benefit both.

They fixed the nyc tram... i think gondolas will be everywhere in the future....minimal payroll and more environmental.

"More environmental"? Lots of cable all over the place is "more environmental"?

The country that dominated the gondola/cable car business: Switzerland, had reverted back to trains and digging tunnels into the mountain! I wonder why? ;)

Everything in san fran runs on a cable and it seems a hell of a lot more environmental than gasoline pollution. I may be wrong though.

Roosevelt Island tram in NYC was a few years older than, but identical to, the current Cannon Mountain Tram. It was replaced a year and a half ago with a brand new, $25 million dollar tram. I remember reading that the cars can operate independently on the new model.

Tram doesn't seem as appealing to me. You have a bunch of people milling around waiting for the next tram to come. Gondola at least you have a steady stream of folks leaving keeping crowds down.
