Anyone ever been ice fishing? I'm a newb and my buddy is determined to drag us out on the ice this year. Is there any MUST HAVE gear I need???

I ask because these guys are having an ice fishing sale online and I need to know if there's some gear I should pick up cheap(er).

Thanks.

Firewood and matches. Seriously, used to do that in NY State, was a blast listening to the ice crack. That was a long time ago, not sure if there are any kind of laws or anything against it now.

I dont know about the laws but I don't know if id start a fire this early in the season on the ice. All depends how thick it is. Twss.

Prob want a least a good foot of ice, all variables depending, size of fire etc.

But agreed hearing the ice crack is definitely cool and creepy.

No question about it, need the thick ice. But that's one thing I'll never forget. Your right, with thick ice you know your safe, but it's always creepy hearing it anyway. For anyone that hasn't experienced it, it's just this loud, I guess cracking sound. But definitely cool and nice sitting around a camp fire with your little flask. Used to bring ice skates as well, but that all depends on quality of ice.
