Spyware programs

I have a computer in my store that has internet on it for buisness. Unfortunetly when it is slow certain employees see the need to go online and download crap to the computer.
Last night I went and deleted lots of crap, but I feel the computer should be running faster. What are some cleanup programs that I can run on the computer? I would really need them to be free if possible as I dont feel like paying and the buissness doesnt as the internet shouldnt be being used.

Who do you have for an IP provider? Comcast allows you to do download the Norton or McAfee for free. I can't remember which one. Did you clean up the temp files, do a disk cleanup and defrag?

The internet is the free wifi at a resort. I dont have seperate internet in store, so honestly no idea who the provider is.
As of yet I did not do the defraging and such yet as I am not super computer savy. I have done that in the past on my personal computer though.

I used to religiously use AVG and Malwarebytes, but I find I get just as good protection using Microsoft's free "Windows Defender".

I would clean up of the disk and defrag too. I would then go to CNET and browse for free malware software. Pick the one with the best review.

My son uses this but he has Windows 7...and I don't think it's available for Vista or XP. I just stick with AVG and Malwarebytes.

free for personal use is not the same as free for commercial use and technically if the PC is business use then the "free for personal use" liceneces don't apply.

that said, i too like AVG for day to day antivirus and Malwarebytes for cleanup. tho lately AVG seems less great than in years past. McAfee has a removal tool called STINGER which is also pretty good.

also "free for personal use" to help minimize possibility of future problems you might also want to consider using http://www.opendns.com/. without getting too geeky, they provide a service that allows you, as an administrator, to determine which categories of web sites a PC can get to. Malicious websites are a category you can pick to block. it isn't a perfect solution but it could help a bit.

Check out HitMan Pro. It's the gnarliest antivirus program ever. It runs off a USB stick so you can use it even on the most fux0red systems. Trojans will often block access to sites like TrendMicro or PandaSoftware for online scans. HitMan is vicious. After it runs it will reboot your computer and clean any rootkit infections as well. I have used this program to sucessfully deal with some otherwise difficult virus issues.

For normal spyware protection, use AdAware.

For normal antivirus, Avast and Microsoft's Security Essentials are fine.

Would suggest against Norton and MacAfee they are huge memory hogs and will cause your computer to run slow.

Not related but my former supervisor was such a hitch, that one of her consumer service guy who sat next to her wanted to get fired so he look at porn while she was next to him. No one could work with her. Sorry about the computer problems.
