Thinking of heading up to Pico Saturday and Magic Sunday. Hoping to avoid the larger resorts for the cross of MA/NH vacation weeks, and hoping the snowfall actually hits both. Going to be a solo trip, probably staying at the Chateau de Impreza in between. Anyone planning to be at either place this weekend?

Furthermore, anyone been to either in the past few days to vouch for conditions?

I've actually never been to Pico (only Kton proper) and haven't been to Magic in quite some time, but I did enjoy it. I was originally planning to hit some central NH spots given that's where the most snow is likely to fall, but my sister claimed stake to our family cottage weeks ago (teachers...). Hence the improv trip. Looking forward to it though!

Pico is great.... definitely best to ski it in pods....spend some time lapping A Slope off the Triple....then head to the Outpost chair for a while as all those runs are great. Then hit up the Summitt chair for Upper Giant Killer, Summitt Glades, 49er, Upper Pike etc.

Nice pub at Pico too. Look forward to your report....if Pico was anywhere other than in the shadow of Killington it would be a lot more popular...enjoy it as a hidden gem.

I've always been intrigued by Pico. They have some pretty good deals on Liftopia, probably trying to get out from under K's shadow like you said. I'll have to put them on my hit list.

My thoughts too. I'm looking into the Liftopia deals for both mountains this weekend. Not a bad deal for two days. Let me know if you're heading up that way Sunday.

Ive been at Magic all week and will still be here on Sunday. The snow making trails are in excellent shape and the lower angle natural snow trails are also good with nice bumps on Up Your Sleeve. I tried some woods and they still need some more love to make it enjoyable. If we get what Matt Noyes is predicting we should be in very good shape with ropes dropping quickly.

I skied last weekend Sat/Sun at Pico, Mon at Magic. I think they've both picked up a little since then, which they both needed badly. jrmagic is on the money for Magic - snowmaking trails were great, Talisman in particular skied great, with the best coverage I've ever seen there. All groomed out, steep and fast.

Same story at Pico - hard, fast conditions on the groomers and snowmaking trails. Natural snow and woods were sketchy at both - I found a few pockets of untracked in the woods at Pico but came across lots of rocks and roots to get there. Regretted heading into woods at Magic though it should be better this weekend.

I'm not greedy. If they get a foot, I'll be happy skiing crud and soft bumps, with an occasional low-angle tree run thrown in.

I can't really handle the real hairy stuff at Magic anyway.

I was at Pico on Wednesday, it was great. First time there, loved it. Good coverage in all the woods I went in.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361554347.730194.jpg

Liftopia tickets bought! Pico tomorrow, heading out of Waltham no later than 6am for a 9am arrival. Magic on Sunday - I'll probably be at Black Line Tavern tomorrow night.

Looking forward to the Pico TR. In particular if it inherits K'ton's steeps or is more mellow like Mt. Snow, Okemo and Statton.

Believe me Pico is nothing like Mt. Snow, Okemo or Stratton. Everything off the summit is rated black except for one trail which is advanced intermediate. And they're legit blacks, not like the blacks at the other areas you mentioned. My favorite trail is summit glades when it has good snow. I think the OP will love the place. The lower mountain is an intermediates paradise. Pico also has a more laid back atmosphere then it's neighbors.
