[SUB]in the east, of course. I concede that Snowbird, Loveland, Abasin and others out west will close after Kton. But in the East, Kton reclaims the King of Spring this year. Just wanted to say it first and early. This will all look very prescient six months from now when K is the last ski hill standing. You heard it here first.

Why, you ask? It's easy...

Yikes, closing posts in early November?!?! Someone could use a few turns.;-) Seriously, I hope they do shoot to regain the crown, they are alot closer to home than the others. I had fun there last Spring. It was like Halloween with Radio Ron and Birdman there.

Nothing like someone asking you what you did over Memorial Day Weekend, and your reply is, "I went skiing". Not at Kmart, but the Slackfest is happening. They used to stay open til June back in the day, didn't they?

According their website they have been open into June 9 times. The website only goes back to 87 however, don't know how many times they stayed open into June previous to that date. The last time they were open till June was the 01/02 season. The latest closing was June 22, 1997.

Back in the day when they still had the double chair with a midstation on Killington Peak they kept Downdraft down to the midstation open for late skiing. I'm not sure which year they started using Superstar for late season skiing.

Last year they closed April 22 but they had a few trails still open not just Superstar. The other trails (upper & lower Skyelark & lower Bittersweat) were pretty much washed out after April 20 but they still listed them as open.

I can remember skiing SS in June when it was 90 degrees...Bikini clad babes..It was a trip skiing thru the mini streams (waterbars) that traversed the trail..IIR Joey Leone was jamming on the old SS deck

Isn't there a problem with John Cummings. Seems every year Killington could go longer but powdr corporate jerks the plug out from Killington management and shuts them down.

John Cummings might be looking at ways of actually adding to Powdr's revenues in an attempt to boost up his legal fund warchest (without having to dip into his family wealth) to deal with some of the likely issues he'll be facing with Park City Mountain Resort and Talisker ;)

I would be happy to have them close after us. It goes without saying we'll push as hard as we can on this end, but Killington extending the season actually keeps people engaged longer. Given what they've invested in snowmaking, their access to markets and ability to include the entire town in late-season creation of interesting packages and programs, it has been illogical that they've, essentially, thrown in the towel the last several years. Good on them if they stay focused this season.

Never skied in June, the latest I've ever skied was May 17 many moons ago. This was before I started buying a season pass & I had one VT. pass left. I was dammed if was going to let it go to waste. I do remember one day skiing in April that temps were in the 80's on the mountain. It was one of the best spring days I've ever had because it had just warmed up & the mountain was still fully open with good coverage. It did hit 90 while I was driving south on the way home that day. Skied many days with temps in the 70's including the last 2 days of my season last year April 20-21. They closed April 22 but that morning it was raining with temps in the 30's so I decided to end my season on a high note instead of wet & cold.

Per newenglandskihistory.com the Superstar chair debuted for the 1987-88 season and if I remember right they immediately moved their spring stockpile over there. I never got a chance to use the double/midstation late season setup but remember pictures of downdraft piled up to the treetops.

including your creation - sunshine daydream.

nicely said, and i know it wasn't your intention but hopefully hearing the competition say that gives them a little kick in the butt. it does look like mike's on board ...

Bump.....

I assume now no one doubts that this is the case. I was so prescient.

I said it 4 months ago and I'll say it again.

ALL HAIL KTON, THE REAL KING OF SPRING

Why do you want it to hail at Killington? I prefer snow.

They want hail for the insurance money. That mountain needs it badly to update their lift system. Their skiable terrain has been shrinking for years. The entire south ridge side of the mountain (my favorite part!) is unusable now. Don't even get me started on the Pico Iterconnect...

Ski Killington: lot's of terrain if you can figure out how to actually use our lifts to get there...

Wow, that is a lot of anger directed at my little joke.

I miss the South Ridge lift, too. But honestly, your favorite part? Better than Bear? Better than Superstar? Better than the Canyon? The place is huge - that is a plus not minus.

Next time you have trouble figuring out which lifts to use, just ask an ambassador. I am sure they will be able to help you.
