So you want to be a patroller? You're looking for a little area to start out and and the training too? I am in the process of organizing an Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) course at Pine Ridge in Barre for the fall. I am accepting new recruits in addition to the list that I have. We may also accept candidates from other areas if the group is small enough.

Select Eastern Division and Outdoor Emergency Care

There are a number of OEC classes that start in August.

The other alternative is join a local fire department or rescue squad and take the EMT-B course for your state. Usually the EMT-B course is FREE if you join a volunteer Fire Department and/or Rescue Squad. Once you have completed the EMT-B course, you can then challenge the National Ski Patrol OEC course. I highly recommend the EMT-B route.

First check with the Patrol Director at the mountain you are interested in patrolling at. See if they are looking for new patrollers and what the requirements are. Each ski area has different requirements for patrollers.
