We were supposed to head up to Maine this weekend but I canceled two weeks ago when I saw that the weather wasn't going to be so promising. With new snow hitting the Northeast this week we did a last minute pivot and drove up to ski Gore Mountain.
As we were pulling up to the resort today I immediately thought we were going to get skunked. It was pouring down rain but it did snow about 5 inches overnight before the weather turned to rain this morning. While the conditions were sticky and slow, the skiing was very similar to spring conditions without the sun. The glades were all closed unfortunately but we did get a chance to ski for 3 solid hours and ended up having alot of fun on the sticky conditions. It started snowing again around 1pm.
Our runs of the day were on each side of Double Barrel which was very exposed but still alot of fun. The run feels similar to Liftline at Sugarbush or Chute/Liftline at Mad River Glen but with less vert. My son and I were both very impressed with Gore overall and look forward to going back tomorrow. This is definitely the best skiing in our opinion when compared to the southern VT resorts. The only downside is the lack of hotels and restaurants in the immediate area. Here are some of my better photos from the day. There are definitely some thin areas!...
