Where: Magic

When: February 9, 2014

Conditions, Powder, Packed Powder, Chopped Powder, Powbumps, Tali was firm with a few death loaves and cookies but soft snow on the sides.

First off, thank you AZ for the Magic passes! It was my first trip to Magic this season. Red chair was still down, got in line for the black chair (there was a big line because of the VARA races), when the lift stopped running. Started to worry when it didn't start back up after a minute. After about five minutes it went back on. Found out later that someone tried to make a round trip at the top of the lift so they had to break out ladders to get them down. No lift problems after that.

The snow was soft. The ungroomed blue trails were excellent with small, soft bumps. Medium was my favorite trail of the day. The expert trails looked like they were in okay shape but would benefit from another 6" or so. I talked to a lot of people who were first-timers to Magic and seemed pretty happy with their experience.

Tali was a little too firm for me, I didn't hit it until later in the day so the center was skied off but there was some soft snow on the sides, but there were also ice chunks to avoid among that soft snow.

I had a silly fall when one of my skis got caught in a soft mound of snow. I didn't think much of it at the time, but today I feel beaten up. Need to take it easy this week.

Glad you had a good time. I guess the lines were long for Magic standards but we're only 5-10 min long at worst and ski on the rest of the time. East side was really fantastic. West side skied pretty well too for the most part. Wizard was rough. I think Broomstick to Black Line was closed off for snow preservation because I poached it in the afternoon and it was awesome! One of my favorite top to bottom runs out there. Thanks again to jrmagic for giving me a guided tour of the mtn and pointing out lots of off map stuff that will keep me begging for a big storm. Some amazing terrain that is really conducive to tree skiing.

I didn't think the lift lines were too bad either but its really a matter of timing with the racers. Id say 5-10 minutes tops during the peaks if when racers were heading up. The east side was great especially in the afternoon. It was only in the low 20s but no wind and the sun shining softened up the trails noticeably from morning to afternoon. I thought Talisman skied well but is was a little firmer than the east side. Low angle trees were skiable but would benefit from more snow. Hopefully we get some. When I left early this morning there was about 2 inches down and it was still snowing when I left. Would be great if the next system would bless us with some appreciable accumulations. MMW I'm glad I got you jonesing to come back and explore some of the lines I pointed out. It was a blast skiing with you.

Looks like the snow got a little beat up since my Thursday visit. But this will make a great base! Still plenty of soft snow to last a little while though.

Halarious they stopped the lift and evacuated someone who went around the bullpin. Why didn't they just let the poor sap take a ride down?

Hell I've ridden the lift around the top once when I was a kid. No big deal, incredibly embarrassing (not if you're a 6 year old kid..) though.

I don't see Master Magician opening this year but the rest of the hill should be good to go with another foot.
