Resort or Ski Area: The Loaf
Conditions: Hard Pack --> Whiteout --> Powder
Trip Report: It'd been way too long since I skied the Loaf, so I grabbed a buddy and made a late-night trip up to Maine for the weekend. To put it generously, conditions were "firm" yesterday... that's not to say it was awful, since we had surprisingly good runs on White Nitro and some of the mellower cruisers, but there were plenty of icy spots to go around. Still had a great day re-familiarizing myself with the mountain and the village --- Bag Burger was as good as I remembered it!
After a good amount of snow last night, today was off the hook. Ate an early breakfast at D'Ellies and lined up for the SuperQuad opening (sort of... apparently first tracks were at 7:30 for special pass holders). Quickly made our way up Skyline and over to King Pine, where we lapped Brackett Basin all morning. Hiked out to Birler and Edger several times, and had a few nearly untouched runs out there early in the morning. It was still a whiteout when we left around 2:15, and the snow was starting to get deep. The woods between King's Landing and Hayburner were another stand-out worth repeating a few times. Maine DOT did a great job with Route 16... the drive home wasn't nearly as bad as we expected.
