Resort: Alta, Utah

Weather: Sunny, temps in the 20's

Conditions: MG/P, 45" to date, 21" base midmountain

Ski Day No. 1

First day of the season. Got up and out pretty quickly and scored first chair. It was about average in terms of snow depth and cover for this time of year--the last two storms really helped.

Alta had the usual routes open (with snowmaking): Mamb, Main Street, Aggie's Alley, Devil's Elbow, Cecret Cutoff, Crooked Mile, and Home Run. They are working on getting Sugarloaf spinning, but that is going to take one more storm and some more snowmaking. They were allowing folks to ski off the groomers into areas on Wildcat and some areas of the High Traverse (the lines above Watson Shelter). It looked bony, but to be honest I found some nice snow on Stimulation that my first day legs could do.

The groomers were in good shape--as to be expected it got slick about noon or so. Nothing too bad though. Runs without snowmaking were quite thin.

Having Collins, Wildcat, and Sunnyside spinning made things enjoyable and gave you at least one or two options off each lift. This spread the crowds out. Lots of happy folks of all ages.

I stayed until just shy of 2:00pm before heading home. A very nice first day. Tomorrow: Snowbird.

Rub it in, nice. I like your hydration system, very important. I "hydrate" through my lungs these days.
