Date(s) Skied: 12/13/15
Resort or Ski Area: Whiteface
Conditions: loose granular man-made
Trip Report:
In an attempt to squeeze some lemonade out of the giant lemon that is this early ski season in the East, my buddy and I headed to WF early Sunday morning. It was Santas ski free day, and my buddy had picked up a couple Santa costumes so that we could partake in this, and other free Santa days.
We arrived right at opening, booted, and Santa suited, up at the car, and hiked down to the lodge. We were stopped outside the lodge by WF personnel, and asked to pose for a picture. We were told we were the best Santas so far, no surprise, we were wearing $70 suits, I'm 250lbs, my buddy is 270lbs, we are Santa material. We boarded the gondola and headed to the summit of Little Whiteface. Here's my buddy with the depressingly bare summit in the background.

I had overtightened my boots and stopped at the mid mountain lodge to let the swelling in my lower legs go down before readjusting my boots. I decided to take my next run off the quad, and consequently missed out on the group Santa photo and ski. My buddy did make the WF Facebook video, that's him and his Sickdays being panned from boots to head in the opening.

The conditions were pretty good, I balked at skiing Essex, but it wasn't terrible, the bumps were firm, but edgeable, I didn't encounter any ice. A couple spots got pretty thin, and rocky, I christened my new skis bases with a few minor scratches, nothing that shouldn't disappear after their first stone grind.
