Not sure if this would be better in the weather or TR forum....

My wife and I rented a place at Seasons @ Mt. Snow from 12/8 to 12/12. We had an interesting week weatherwise: -2F (air temp not wind chill!) on 12/8, fresh snow and nice temps 12/9, 12/10 50F and raining, 12/11 freezing rain, upper 20's.

The rain was bad Thursday night into Friday. The condo complex lost power some time overnight/early in the AM...then again early AM. All was fine when we woke up, but the power went out again late morning. We decided to go to the main mountain and maybe ski. My flatlander frame of mind: "Well, the power is out here, but it could be fine at the main mountain." Not so...everything was shut. We decided to pack up and head home. Only then did we realize how bad this storm was. Rt 30 was shut shortly after the junction with 112. Luckily we take 112 and pick up 91 in Greenfield. Power was out from Mount Snow...all the way to Greenfield MA. :-o I spoke to a lady who came up from Brooklyn, NY. She had to take Rt 30 heading towards Stratton, then pick up 100 South just to get to Mt. Snow....only to realize her condo and the entire mountain were without power.

Looking out of the condo 12/12AM:

Great pictures. There was similar damage in Central NH. Just a really damn mess. What realy struck me was the extent of the damage. Miles and miles with no lights, trees, wires and poles down everywhere.

There are still LOTS of people/houses in the greater Mount Snow/Deerfield Valey region without power right now(Sunday evening). Yesterday they opened up a Redcross shelter for heat/showers in the local regional highschool down in Wilmington. This is really a massive and devasting storm where it hit, and the bitter irony is that miles and miles of trees and mountainside all glistening in ice is also stunningly beautiful to look at.

I agree. The ride home was amazing with the sun glistening off all the ice. But that's the same ice that did so much damage.

It certainly made me think twice. Yeah, we lost a day of skiing. But some people have had no power for days...or worse, this storm damaged their house/property.
