Killington and Bretton Woods. Sugarbush may be back next weekend. SB will close April 30, Killington will close May 1, and Bretton Woods will close sometime in May.

So Killington seems to have no interest to beat out Bretton Woods, forget about shooting for late May. And at the beginning of the year it at least appeared that they opened for the early weekend only because Wildcat announced they were opening. Their early/late season reputation is dying fast.

Of all places, why does Bretton Woods care about staying open so late?

good question. i suspect they see some value in the publicity (just like they are getting here in this thread). kmart closing on may 1st is looked at as a disappointment but BW staying open until may 1st is looked at as an achievement. in addition to the marketing value, the golf and ski package through the mount washington hotel probably adds a few bills during the slow time of the year for new england's hospitality industry.

Marketing value is my guess for Brettonwoods. I would dare say they care about their patrons as well.:p I had a great time there this weekend. Yes it was limited terrain, but maintained well. I sent the maketing Dept a note on how impressed I was. Not just me I skied with others and for late season skiing it was nice.

Were there any good bumps?

There were bumps on Bode's run on Sat. They were deep at a pretty steep pitch. Bode's run was closed on Sunday. Just the Brettonwood/Bigger ben run know. It was pretty much just cruising. Alot of folks were coming in off the sides of the trails getting air coming back into the trail. Snow is build up pretty good, kind of an artificial banks/drop offs.

I was told last year that Bretton Woods has a contractual agreement with the condo owners to make it to May - obviously can't verify if this is authentic.

On a side note, how would you all feel if you lived out west - hundreds of inches of base and all the ski areas are closing?

Yeah, I think they are after the marketing value as well...."even in a bad year we are open through May..." When I was up there a few weeks ago, the guy in the demo shop told me they were open until May in 2005....and he expected that they would do it again this year (although he said they got decent late season snow last year).

That said, they really do seem to take good care of their customers. I've had nothing but good experiences during my trips up there this year. They obviously value customer service and seem to instill it in folks that work there.

When I was there for Easter weekend 2005, a lady came through the baselodge offering free drinks to people on Easter Sunday, Killington/ASC take note.

Yeah the place is somewhat boring, but the snow maintenance was impecable. My only complaint is that lodging in the immediate area of the resort is on the expensive side.

Bob, do they have enough snow to make it past May 1st in your opinion?

I just called the resort and the guy on the phone said that they will be open into early May, but probably not make it to the first weekend in May.

Yes there is enough snow to make it to May. They pused big piles of snow around to fill in potential thin spots. Still a bunch ready to be moved when needed.
I would go May 6th if they were open. I plan of going this Sunday.

Loafer89.... I think the lodging is priced high to meet a level of folks they want on mountain. This is an upscale place and really caters to the patrons. I have to be a day skier here.

BW is gaper central. I was there over spring break and there wasnt a soul there near within 20 years of my age other than the lifties. Pretty funny to be riding with all these rich retired guys with neon skis.

while not having hundreds of inches of snow, most of my favorite ski areas in the east usually close with 80% terrain open and many years close near or completely open. definitely a slap in the face, but that is what my feet are for, only mother nature dictates when my season ends.
