BARTLETT, New Hampshire -- January 26, Attitash in Bartlett, New Hampshire is honoring its Founder's Day by offering the first 400 guests a lift ticket for the 1965 price of $7.50. Tickets will go on sale that Friday starting at 8:30 AM, first come first served, and lifts will operate at 9:00 AM.
"The industry has come a long way since Attitash was initiated by our seven founders. The changes in snowmaking and grooming along with vast improvements in ski clothing and equipment have really driven the sport," said Jesse Mosston, brand manager at Attitash. "Because of their insights and many others locally, Mount Washington Valley has become synonymous with skiing."
Attitash Mountain Lift Corporation formed in the 1960's under the leadership of North Conway, NH developer Phil Robertson. Other founding members are Forrester 'Tim' Clark, Charles C. Rogers, Robert E. Bowers, George M. Seamann, Richard D. Gale and Robert T. Holloran.
On January 25, 1965 Attitash Mountain opened with 41 skiable acres accessed by one chairlift and two t-bars. Current day Attitash has expanded to 280 acres accessed by 12 lifts across two peaks. In 1966 Attitash hosted the world's first freestyle ski competition titled Peter Pinkam's Skimasters. In 1982 Attitash became the first mountain in the Mount Washington Valley to install snowmaking and today has the states most powerful snowmaking system.
