Amazing video. Not sure if it has been shared here yet. And I thought night-time tree skiing with headlamps at Crotched was fun.

Please share what setup you used to ski the night woods at the Crotch. I'm thinking that a three headlamp spread would work.

I've tried it there before. Seeing the trees is easy. It seeing the surface cover that is tricky. Shadows and the lack of backlighting make it virtually impossible.

Just two bright LEDs. The angle is the most important part. To take the variable of surface out I've only done it after a decent storm and avoided the areas that are usually thin (the real dense pine areas, not sure what they are called these days). A full moon can always help too.

i started this year. I have my bike headlamp on my helmet (800 lumens at max setting), I also bought a 10 dollar go pro chest harness that I will be attaching another headlamp to, this will be pointed down directly in front of me.

I am hoping this setup will work decently, last week I was skiing (not in the trees) with a cheap headlamp on the chest harness (and my bike light on my head) and the chest mounted light was useless because my bike light was so much brighter.

your mileage may vary, I normally mountain bike with just the one light on the lowest setting and it works for me.

If you have other people with lights casting shadows, I'm sure it would complicate things.

No, we got 15 cms (half a foot) last thursday that I took advantage of with my rock skis. Turns were marginal at best, I wasn't in the woods (not nearly enough snow for that) but i made it work on some gravel pit roads near my house thursday night and then a few runs at the local hill on the weekend.

We still have snow on the ground, but it's only about an inch deep now and it's going to rain tomorrow and Friday. Our local hill is supposed to open this weekend, but they haven't made enough snow yet and won't be able to in the next few days.

I won't be skiing in the woods until at least mid January unless we get a huge dump.
