For those who didn't see it, here is the Boston Globe Article on the incident that took place during Thursday night's Red Sox/Yankees game when a spectator took a swipe at Sheffield/the ball delaying the game and causing security to break up what could have been a brawl by escorting the fan out of the stadium.

I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan, but after watching the replay several times, it is pretty clear to me that this guy was going after Sheffield. He should feel ashamed and maybe even banned from any more Sox games. Regardless of what his motives really were (getting the ball or going after Sheffield) he crossed the line that separates spectators from atheletes.

I hate to say it, but I give props to Sheffield for keeping as cool as he did. :-?

What do you think?

It is clear that we was going for the ball. Literally Sheffield's face ran into the guy's elbow.

However, the a-h who dumped his beer on Sheffeld deserves a permanent ejection.

No question in my mind - the guy was definitely taking a swipe or swing or poke at Sheffield.

Like the trailboss, I'm a lifelong Sox fan, and always kinda hoped we were "better" or at least more polite than our Yankee counterparts but this is a big black eye for all of us.

It's fun to yell and scream about the rivalry, and to make fun of each other on both sides, but we need to remember to let the players decide the game on the field. Any fans who go on the field or mess with theplayers or throw things onto the field, etc, should get booted and arrested if what they do becomes assault.....

Now about that umpire last night ......whew!! Bad calls on both sides......

I think he was trying to wave the home-plate umpire off the field.

The guy took a swipe at Sheffield...making a play in the stands is always risky business...and if you're a YANKEE (or even a Met) trying to make the play in BOSTON may be considered outright dangerous...

Just read online (Boston.com, which incidentally defended their actions earlier...read the Globe...) that these two are real booze hounds... :dunce:

I think it's all pretty stupid, all the way around. I think the guy was going for the ball, for which he should have been ejected, anyway. I think the woman that got knocked over when Scheffeild semi-went for the guy knocked the beer out of the Gap guy's hand. I think Scheffeild threw the ball like a little girl.

Mostly, I feel sorry fo the Gap-guy, since those beers cost an arm and a leg, and you have to stand in line for two days to get one.

Wonderful! Now that we showed our maturity as a group discussing Gas Prices, Politics and the right to die in a respectful manner; The Yanks and Sox are about to bring us down! ;)

Oh, you've got to be kidding me. We have 26 world series under our belts. We may be smug ..... but more obnoxious than a Sox fan? Now don't get me wrong. If the Yanks were spanked for 86 years in a row, I'd be a jerk too.

That being said .... as a Yankee fan, I truely believe he was swiping at the ball, not at Shep (which is just as bad in my book.) He was being idiotic, but not malevolent. How do you like them apples!

....or maybe we should agree that it was all Ron Artest's fault and be a happy family again.

Remember Sheffied is the former buddy of Bonds who said he supplied him with steriods but didn't realize it was steriods.

I was watching the game live and have probably seen it 20 times. I think the guy had his arm down thinking the ball would roll around and he could grab it. Being drunk he was slow to react when Sheffield got there to grab the ball. It's when he tried to quickly retract his arm that he hit Sheffied unintenially.

The guy should not have had in arm in the field of play and on ESPN they showed the guy close up and it was easy to see the guy wasn't wishing Sheffied a merry christmas. The guy next to him seemed to be on another planet.

The guy involved should be banned from Fenway for the rest of the season. Glad it was quickly diffused.

Boston fans don't throw padlocks and batteries at the Yanks.

Owch?

I'm still trying to find an instance in which a Yankee fan threw a battery or padlock at a Sox Player. Every google search that pops up goes to some Sox message board and the author named something like "Yankee-Hater 2458"

Well it appears that Mr. Chris House has lost his season tickets and the other gentleman who threw the beer has been thrown out for the rest of the season.

I think justice has been served.

He lost them for the REST of this season and was reimbursed...will be allowed to return next year.

Ah yes, I should learn to read. I guess thats fair then. Loosing them for good would be unfair. Do you know if he gets the same seats back?
