We're heading up to the Adirondacks to split 4 days between Whiteface and Gore, first week of March midweek. Does anyone have any tips on best trails, areas to avoid, hidden runs etc.? My wife and I both can handle just about anything thats groomed and maybe some less severe glades. Any advice would be appreciated!!

At Whiteface, if it's open, try skiing upper empire. It is a narrow, natural snow trail that is a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it is rarely open.

In general, at Whiteface everyone skis the gondola now. If you don't mind some chilly chair lift rides, there is some nice, uncrowded trails on the upper mountain. All depends on the wind...

If my memory from 3 yrs ago serves me correctly, there's only one intermediate run from the top of the gondala. As you'd expect, it gets scraped clean in no time. There's more groomed intermediate trails to choose from once you get down this trail. They usually groom some expert trails (boo!) which should help you give you more choices. I agree with the other poster about the top part of the mountain. Don't bother if it's windy, though. Great mountain overall with long, continously steep trails.

Gore may be more your thing. Tons of intermediate groomers and very long, generally easy glades (checkout the twister glades - they go on forever). Their ungroomed stuff is generally short so it could be a good place to enhance your abilities.

Just got back...

Just got back from Whiteface. Great conditions! Upper Empire was not open. I would recommend skiing Upper/Lower Cloudspin. Nice long steep trail. Lots of loose powder on it as of yesterday. You can also run down Upper Skyward, another very nice run.

Stay away from the gondola. Gets way crowded over there. Take the Face Lift, ski straight onto the Summit Lift and ski ski ski...

Haven't skied Gore yet.
