I tried Stratton last year. While I detested the base area with great scorn, I was actually pleasantly surprised by the trails and glades. Stratton has a number of reasonable width twisty type trails not characteristic of a mega resort. And while their trees aren't steep, the ones I skied were nicely cut. I honestly wouldn't mind skiing the mountain again but my take on the dog crap is you couldn't pay me to deal with that base area again. But you can't knock the place for its terrain. Not steep but the trails are actually quite nice, for what they are.

Stratton has some nice trails and is much bigger then Hunter. My point is that the terrain at Hunter is much stepper then anything trails at Stratton. Not talking about snow fall or people on the hill or conditions, just trails I don't ski Hunter to much anymore but I still know that is a fact.

I've also skied both Hunter and Stratton. You are right that Hunter is steeper than stratton. But that doesn't make it better. It just makes it steeper. Hunter is small and the trails on the main face don't have any character. As Riv pointed out, Stratton has some nicely cut tree runs and some of their cruising trails are quite fun and twisty. You can't get that at Hunter. And Hunter just doesn't receive meaningful amounts of snow - as you pointed out. And that sucks.

there you go again, stating your opinion as the absolute authority.

The man said he likes Hunter better than Stratton. So what? Yet, you have to tell him he's wrong and you're right?

Yes, I do. Scotty's wrong and he knows it. You know it too, but won't admit it to prove a point.

I'm sure there are numerous hardcore Plattekill fans that prefer it over Mt. Snow and Stratton. So what?

Those numerous hardcore Plattekill fans would be wrong. That's what.

I'm also sure a lot of people prefer going to Disney than Paris. And they would be wrong in preferring that. Unless they're under 13, of course.

You're a huge Killington fanboy. There's at least a dozen ski areas in New England that I'd ski before Killington. Does that make you and other Killington fanboys wrong for thinking it's the best ski area in the East? no.

It's irrelevant where you prefer to ski. Killington is objectively a better hill than Hunter, for example. And I don't care if someone prefers to ski hunter. Their preference is their preference, but Killington is better than Hunter, just like Paris is better than Disney, even if some people prefer Disney.

By the same token, anyone that thinks that any hill in the East is better than, say, Whistler, needs to have their head examined.

Finally, the same goes for someone who thinks that the steaks at, say, Ponderosa are better than the ones served at Morton's or Peter Luger. They can believe that all they want. But they would be wrong.

Killington is Morton's, whereas Hunter and PLattekill are Ponderosa. There may be a dozen steakhouses that are better than Morton's, but Ponderosa simply aint one of them. Similarly, there may be a dozen Eastern ski areas that are better than Kton, but Hunter simply aint one of them (same goes for plattekill).

People surely have a right to be wrong, but that doesn't make them right.

Yes if I lived closer to Vermont I ski Killington and all the North Vermont mountains a lot and probably never come ski Catskills to often, but I find that as I get older I really love being able to get to my hill in 1.5 hours, ski either day of the weekend , have great conditions, great vibe, no lines and not be to tired to drive home, yes Vermont and all of North New England is better then the Cats but to me It's not worth my time and money more then once or twice a season.

I like the idea of the top 3 from each state. Sure there might be some from Vermont that would be better than some of the top 3 from other states but who cares. Its like divisions in Sports, one division might have 3 good teams and another only 1, but when it comes to the playoffs you have to win your division to move on. It will give an interesting set of statistics for the purpose of comparing the "top 3" in each state. Its not a necessarily a poll of the top 12 ski areas in the northeast, but a playoff of what each state has to offer. As long as you define what you are establishing with the poll it is worthwhile.

You know what, I agree. I'm going to keep the poll this way. After all, as DHS said, it's all a matter of opinion, so it really doesn't matter which 12 are listed.

That would be voter intimidation, you can go to jail for that (or whatever the online webforum version of jail is).

I was going to go beyond merely voter intimidation. I actually thought of eliminating Hunter because it just wasn't worthy of being in the same poll with the rest of the ski areas. Would that have gotten me more jail time?

No; it would just elevate your internet status from "Troll" to "Troll First Class" on your way up the ladder to "4-Star Troll" and eventually "Supreme Troll".
