I've had a couple of issues with Alpine replay-- one is battery related-- it stops logging when battery is low- not dead but low, unless you tell it otherwise, this has cost me vertical on a number of occassions. And just recently it stopped logging vert etc- but kept the timer going--I'm assuming it was a cold issue. But, it cost me a couple of hours of vertical which was lost. Finally, I am wondering why my year to date numbers in the AZ group are much lower than my YTD totals on my personal replay page-- go figure.

I tried to use it at Sunday River last Friday and it kept acting up. Out of the whole day it only logged two runs.

First problem was I forget to activate it. In my middle age my memory is not so good, so when I'm thinking about taking my first runs I don't tend to think about pressing buttons on my phone to start the logging process. It should be smart enough to start itself when it detects I'm riding up a ski lift.

Then I stopped for a break and pressed the pause button, then ran some other app, and when I was ready to go skiing again it seemed AlpineReplay was no longer paused and my previous runs were lost. I think it should just periodically upload runs so that they are never lost.

Later on it seemed to lose the GPS signal and this seemed to put it into a stuck state. If I'd stop it and start it again, it would reacquire the GPS signal and start logging. I had my phone in the thigh pocket of the ski pants, so I would have thought it would get a good signal.

It's kind of neat when it works, but with all the manual operation steps it seems like more trouble than it is worth.

Yeah, this is a significant one. The fact that you lose the whole day if it crashes really blows. Last week I tried to solve this by stopping and uploading mid-day. But then it really freaked out when I tried to start it back up. WHAT?!?! You're getting ANOTHER day in today?!?!

(First world problem for sure but still....)

This thread and my own complaints in it prompted me to write to AlpineReplay to see what was up. Their answer was fast (less than 24 hrs) and reasonable:
"We've uploaded a new version to the Android Play market this morning (version 2.1.6). This version should take care of both those problems. Please let me know how it goes. You weren't doing anything wrong, AlpineReplay was just being a bit buggy on certain models of Android."

That's damn good customer service. So I'll be re-installing the latest version and bringing it on the hill tomorrow. Will report back.

It seems like a lot of the issues have to deal with pausing / starting and stopping etc. I've only used it once on an iphone 4s...forgot the phone the other 2 days I went, but there really is no need to pause it start it stop it etc. Just start it when you get to the hill, hit the home button and leave it running all day until you get to your car at the end of the day. You can run any other apps or do whatever you need to with your phone. you dont have to pause it at all. I ran this for a whole day and it only used about 30 percent of the battery.
