I posted a thank you and TR of an incident with my husband at Crystal Mountain Michigan last year(or was it the year before) on EpicSki.

He looks like a doofus wearing a Motorcycle helmet when he skis, but after that accident, I keep my mouth shut and am grateful that he wears a helmet........period!

If you're interested in the funny tale, you can read it here. It gets funnier as the thread goes on. ;)

I just read an article about a German politician who was skiing in Austria and had a collision with another skier. Both were going about 35 and hit head-on. The politician wearing a helmet is in the hospital and the Slovakian woman was not and is dead. Anyway the politician is being investigated for reckless skiing an manslaughter.

The article in German if you are interested: http://www.stern.de/politik/deutschland/:Althaus'-Ski-Unfall--Erster-Zeuge/650570.html

Just as long as they don't get all bitchy and invade Poland again. We all know how that turns out.

it's been 10 days since my accident at Gunstock. My body still feels as if I were run over by a truck and not just another skier. I'm willing to bet that I would not be sitting here tonight if I had not had a helmet on.

A Gunstock instructor was telling me today about an accident at the mountain on Saturday. It seems the individual was out of control on the learning Hill and went straight into the woods. ...

See, there you go. Skiing out of control will get you!

And to think there are still people..not just gapers but avid skiers who still ski helmetless..

what on earth is the big deal about freedom of choice? if someone doesnt want to use a helmet, that is their choice. i ski with someone regularly who doesnt wear a helmet. i never even think twice about it.

although, he does crash alot.

If they just made a helmet law it would make things safer once and for all..until then i will continue to hand out business cards to those who smoke(cigarettes..mj is fine) or don't wear helmets..

lol..

it really should just be like bicycle law they have to where it to a certain age. by the time they come of age they would never think of not wearing one. i feel really weird when i dont have one on. like someone is going to pop out on the trail and kick me in the balls at any moment.

Personally, I'm not into a helmet law. I don't believe government intervention in that area is a good idea. I value freedom of choice.

With that said, I always wear a helmet. I value what it protects. If others don't feel the same, so be it. That is for them to decide. I also find helmets more comfortable and they regulate my body heat much better than hats, which also tend to get itchy.

(however I do suppose a public policy argument can be made in favor of a helmet law...but I'm still Nay on the idea).

I think it should be for all ages...and be a federal law that the ski resorts would have to follow..you want to ski or ride..you wear a helmet..simple as that..if you earn turns in the BC you could go helmetless..it's never going to happen but that's how strongly I think people should wear helmets skiing and riding..

My Mom convinced me to get a helmet several years back..she said that if I hit my head bad and become a vegetable..I'll never get any you know what..and I've been wearing a helmet ever since..
