Find out who the local A$$hole is and punch him in the nose at a busy place. Be sure to say loudly "Things are gonna change around here!"

That's hysterical!! Except you don't want to even mutter the word "Change" in New England. Also always keep in mind that everybody is somehow related to everybody else. If you say, "that guy is a jerk", the response will no doubt be, "Oh, that guy is my uncle" or (cousin, brother, whatever).
GOOD LUCK!!!!

Bangor Maine ain't exactly the sticks. I love Moosehead Lake...now that's the sticks.

The wife and I will be up there again this summer for the American Folk Festival formally the National Folk Festival. We are food vendors so if you stop by lunch is on us. :D
Hey sro,
I understand ya' completely.... Spent summers up in the woods with my granddad(worked for GNP..back before they sold out to big timber conglomerates...etc), 4wd, canoe & kayak ;-) PM me some time for what I can look for you two wearing.... How many days are you usually up here around the Festival time...?

I'm doing well at inserting myself into the local scene at Hunter... I've been renting houses up here for 15 or so years - I know tons of people already...
Have developed friendships through skiing and playing music...
One of my best freinds up here is a business owner and a town trustee.. We went out to look at potential properties for me to buy.. He wanted to keep me in the village of Hunter... Probably so I could vote for him :)
We drove around and talked to people and I discovered the mellow town side of Hunter... Lots of mellow ex-NYCer's...
To make a long story short.. After driving around for an hour - I found a house to buy thats on the river with a view of the mountain..

I'm in contract right now!!!

Nice! Looks like plenty of room for an AZ gathering! ;) :D

True - but you'd have to ski the dreaded Hunter Mountain though.. ;)

Good point, wouldn't be worth it then I guess... ;)

Seriously, I have to make it out there next year. I need to see for myself, then I'll be aloud to bash the place! :p Actually I hiked the mountain in the fall about 12 years ago, thought it was nice enough then...

Sorry to go so far OT, back on topic... Just be yourself, if you're cool enough to be accepted then you will be. You can't force or trick people into liking you... :)

Like I said - I approach it mellow and let friendships happen naturally.. The rub is you don't want to come off as anti-social or something...

I'd say at this point 50% of my friends up here have lived in the area all their lives... Making new friends/aquaintences all the time
