I'm tied down with work but a buddy is on the fence about heading up tomorrow, Monday. Anybody have a report on conditions and crowds? Esp. back on Claire's? Just checked and looks like they're not blowing snow back there...

belleayre on sat.

Went on saturday - I thought conditions were great. Got there at 8:15 and it was snowing hard. Got first chair and found a few inches of fresh snow and pretty nice hard pack underneath. Stayed with the tomahawk quad and didn't wait in line once- skied right up to the chair. Even on chair seven and superchief there wasn't more than a one minute wait. Didn't think it was icy at all-just carveable hardpack. Lots of mogul trails off chair seven if you like that stuff.

Nice guys, thanks. I'll pass it along.
Hopefully crowds'll thin out for tomorrow, but great to hear they're blowing on the bumps. Wish I could get away - that snowstorm we had in town here nearly me, I almost took a run in the local park...
Anybody else?

President's week skiing

I don't usually go during holiday weeks anymore, but I have a 15 year old nephew who has never skied and wants to give it a try. I am going to take him on Wed. I'm hoping the areas will have made plenty of snow for the holiday crowds, and that by Wed the temps are expected to moderate. It is tough for a "never-ever" to try to learn while freezing their A$$ off. I'm hopeful that he will do well, since he does ice skate (although he doesn't play hockey) and my experience with skaters is very positive. Six years ago I took my nephew's older brother (age 16 at the time) for his first ski trip. He did play very competetive ice hockey, and (I know people will doubt this.) I took him from "never on skis" (at about 9:30 AM) to groomed double diamonds in under THREE hours. He just skied in my tracks and laid over those edges regardless of how steep it got. He had no fear of falling, and except for a couple of "crossed tips" episodes he barely went down! It wasn't a fluke either, since we did two days in a row, and he just got better on day two. He really caught the bug, and skis whenever he can now. Both of them are excited about my impending move to Utah. Can you guess why?
