...decent. Roger's voice is starting to go south and Pete's is pretty well gone, but what can you expect for a couple of 65 year olds who have lived the life they have. Definitely something missing something without John (RIP). To me he was the most important member of the band and one of the best bassists ever.

Hard to believe it was 19 years ago that I saw them at Foxboro stadium.

Caught just a bit...Daltrey still looks pretty good...last I saw him was at the closing of Arsenal's Highbury Stadium where he wrote and performed a 'goodbye' anthem as the team moved to their new digs. It was a lot like it'll be in September for the Yankees.

warning: non soccer fans will find that video a total waste of time.

I do recall a lot of older footage with him playing Gibson's, but had also thought that post-Moon he was using Tele's and Strats most of the time. This is somewhat true, but according to this website it looks like he was all over the place for much of his career.

not a suprising number considering the amount of guitars he smashed

Now that I think about it, Pete's holding a crazy "Flying V" guitar on the cover of his "All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes" album. I guess he wasn't was for pure guitar fidelity. *shrug*

I recall seeing Moon The Loon totally trash a drum kit at the end of a show on the Quadrophenia tour. I've never heard a drummer that comes close to what he could do on the skins.

*jealous* would've loved to have seen the full Who.....born to late.

Keith was certainly unique, never been anyone like him. I wouldn't call him the best drummer I've seen or heard, that statement I reserve for Billy Cobham or Rodney Holmes, but Keith was definitely a special talent.

Townshend was playing a Fender guitar in the VH1 show. Didn't he always used to play Gibson?

He used to play Les Pauls and SGs - they got that great sustain and feedback he's known for..

Lately he plays Strats... Also seen him play Telecasters... Probably because he doesnt play loud anymore..

Yeah BUT You ain't never heard our man ---------------- DMC or have ya ?? :D :D

Moon is in my arsenal... When I was a kid in the 70's I dreamed about him...
He and Ringo and Bonham were my idols growing up... So you'll hear all of them in my playing...

Not many can play like Moon... In fact even Moon had problems plying like Moon.. Totally untrained.. Extreme speed from raw talent... Half the stuff he did couldn't even be captured on live recordings... Total insanity... Especially when he was young... Check out videos from "The Kids Are Alright" - playing "Cant Explain" - you can't even see his hands they are moving so fast... He played with his hands up which is optimal for speed.. And he did that naturally...

I can capture the essence of Moon... Like all the fills people expect to hear... But capturing the insanity is super tough for me as I pretty untrained and mediocre in some "drummers" eyes... :)

By "hands up" do you mean palms up?

I have to admit to a bit of sadness with any Who live performance I've seen in the last 15-20 years. Mind you, this band may well be my favorite of all time, and Pete Townshend is amongst the greatest songwriters I've ever encountered. But watching Pete still doing feeble windmills on his guitar or Roger twirling his microphone and 3 feet of mic cord (didn't he used to swing 20 feet of cord) seems like a weak imitation of their old self. The music is still great and timeless. But it looks to me like they can't let go of the rock n' roll personae they established 40 years ago.

I liked very much their album of '06, Endless Wire. In a recent interview, Daltry said that he thinks Pete may still have his greatest album in him. He did say though that he wasn't sure that Pete would choose The Who as the vehicle with which to record/release this work. I'd look forward to more Townshend music.

That's the way Sonny Igoe taught me to hold the sticks over 30 years ago. Gripping the sticks "French grip" caused me extreme pain. Drummers that hold them with wrists bent and thumbs up are experiencing tendonitis and carpal tunnel. I saw Daltrey swing the mike and it came off of the cable and hit someone in the audience.
