I've bought a couple of small things on Ebay, but this is my first attempt at selling.

This is one of the questions I received:

HI,
I am Dr.ALEX SMITH Regarding the advert you placed on eBay, which I am very much interested in and I would like to purchase the item for $1,500.00 US DOLLARS plus $120.00 US DOLLARS for cost of shipping.I want you to get back to me if this offer is okay with you and i want shipment through (USPS).Moreover, the package will be shipped to my SON in Nigeria who is attending a UNESCO exchange course there. The item is meant to be a BIRTHDAY GIFT for HIM.I would have sent it myself but i am out of town for An AID'S/ HIV CAMPAIGN RESEARCH.I will pay you through the safest Money Order which is TRAVELEX MONEY ORDER.Reply me with your email address and also i need your NAME,address,CITY,STATE,TELEPHONE # AND E-MAIL ADDRESS to make payment for the item as soon as possible..YOU CAN SEND A MAIL TO
(alexsmithly_500@yahoo.com).(alexsmithly@hotmail.com)is my HOTMAIL ADDRESS ADD ME UP SO WE CAN CHAT. PLEASE GO AHEAD AND END THE AUCTION FOR THE ITEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!! :smash:

The "item" is an unopened iPhone. My wife was pretty psyched until I pointed out that there are 3,000+ available with Buy It Now prices of just over $500. :-D

I dunno...those Nigerians seem like they're pretty wealthy.

and apparently many of them are long lost relatives of mine who tragically die in plane crashes every week all of whom have instructed their lawyers to contact me via email to pass along their fortunes.

It's very confusing and I am a bit dissappointed I have not received even one payment of the 500,000 British pounds sterling I have been promised from each of them. Maybe next week

There are a bunch of websites about people who actually contact these dirtbags and string them along for months on end just to yank their chain. Funny stuff.

I got a couple of more reasonable sounding offers from the UK, but they are still a bit odd.

Shipping internationally just doesn't seem like a good idea.

Particularly since all the US phones are locked to AT&T, and they aren't the carriers anywhere else in the world.

I think you should go with the Nigerian offer. But be sure to go ahead and send you bank account numbers and Social Security number- he's going to need them, anyway.

thats not true you can unlock the iphone and there was a anouncement that one of the EU providers would be selling the iphone soon and that was like 4 months ago. but who cares the iphone doesn't do anything someone need to run a bussiness. you don't have 3g speeds, you can not teather it with out setting up mini wireless network with the phone. while this may change with iphone 2 i still think the phone is lackluster sort of like ITV. sorry for the sidebar. why are you selling the phone in the first pace?

My wife "won" it in some sort of sales contest at work. We have no use for it. If I need to access the internet on the road, I'll use my notebook. For tunes I'm more than happy with my Nano.

I'd rather have the money to put towards a ski pass next winter. That's alot more useful to me.

May as well throw in your credit card numbers and don't forget to include the little 3 digit number on the back.

It's amazing that there are still people out there who fall for this scam.

I used to sell my posters on Ebay. In addition to this scam the phishing emails I got from bogus buyers was relentless. If the email doesn't include your Ebay username...do not click the link!

This internet thing is pretty cool.

$480.

Can I buy half a pair of F17s?

Now I just need to deposit this check for $5000 and wire the difference to my new friends in Nigeria.
