Trip Report: Went from feeling like I'd made a mistake in picking ABasin today to trying to figure out if this day cracked top 10 ever!

Had planned all along to ski ABasin today. Meg was taking the day off from skiing so it was just going to be Jake and me. This morning Jake announced that ABasin was half closed. Turned out only 450 of the 900 acres were open. Looking at the maps and snow reports it was clear that the back bowl (Montezuma Bowl) was closed. In prepping for this trip that was one of the highlights I'd been planning on. But we headed up anyway, taking advantage of Meg skipping the day.

First ride up Exhibition Chair started getting me excited. Could see that the 2 inch snow they said they got overnight was looking more like 4 - 6 :)

Jake and I headed up the next lift to the top and came down something blue, hard to keep track of trails from the top as it is pretty wide open. Found lots of creamy pow that had been pushed around by the wind.

Lower half of the mountain was less windy so the powder was more consistent. We hit Exhibition and found some great powder bumps. For the next few runs we stuck to the lower mountain finding plenty of fresh snow. Exhibition turned out to be the run of the day for both Jake and me.

After lunch we headed to Pallavicini Lift and skied some steeps, pretty open so not sure what trail we ended up on. Visibility was rough. The greeter in the morning warned me that visibility would be poor and then joked that we'd need to ski with our knees and ankles to feel the snow since we won't be seeing it.

A bunch more runs on the lower half and we called it a day. Lack of oxygen was very noticeable today.

shot some video, we'll post up later.
