Oh, come on. That is just complete exaggeration. Burke gets a good amount of snow but no where near what the spine of the Green's gets from Killington up to Jay. I lived in StJ for two winters and was at Burke a lot. Its good, but it ain't that good.

I'd have to agree. Jay gets the most snow, hands down. Most of the time the storms have petered out by the time they get to Burke, however, there are a good many times that it gets snow from the coast or from clippers that other places don't get. Burke averages anywhere from 220-250" and it holds snow quite well.

burke is in the shadow - mt Washington to the east and the Greens to the west, it will always have less snow than both ranges

but I gladly ski 6 inches of untracked lift served snow at burke than fight with the hoardes at jay with 12 inches -which is likely on wind hold anyway

Agree about Jay. They have the famous "Jay Cloud". However Burke does benefit from the numerous small clippers that cut across northern VT ( that most of southern-central Vt misses). From the northern spine, it is mainly low rolling hills and then smack into Burke.

The Mt Washington shadow only affects Burke on certain storm tracks, which only occurs a couple of times on average per winter. And then it means instead of 3 feet, maybe they only get 2 feet. Burke gets just as much snow or more than 80% of the ski areas in the Eastern US.

Agree with you on the powder and Burke is hardly ever on wind hold.

any storm blowing in from the north east gets "dumbed" down and then the wrap around around once the storm shifts to north west winds gets hung up on the northern green spine

not saying they don't get snow, but more than once we have sat at the bar after skiing good snow to read reports of double the dose at other mtns - just sayin

Other than Jay Peak which is the only resort in the Northeast with over 300 inches per year that Im aware of, Burke being in Northern VT gets more than most resorts in southern VT (if not all southern VT/NH). Please correct me if Im wrong.

As far as Burke not being that good, some would say northeast skiing isnt that good across the board when you compare it to the rockies out west or some resorts in europe and japan. Its good enough for me, but then again I am moving to Colorado soon and these measly snowfall amounts will be history for us!

As far as Burke not being that good...
No one ever said Burke was not that good. I was specifically referring to Burke's natural snow fall only when I said it is good but not that good. In other words, it is good but it is not the spine of the Northern Greens. Definitely better than average for New England though and better than anything in NH that I am aware of.

For a monadnock, it does pretty damn well for snow. But it is not in the same category as SB, MRG, Stowe, and Jay. Those places get just a little more snow.

Burke has great consistent pitch and excellent exposure. The snow holds well.

Another point on the snow. Burke with its North eastern location usually does very well on the wrap around as a storm is pulling away. So many times when a storm is over at other ski areas, it is still snowing another day or two at Burke.

Pretty much the same map the released on their website last year. The trails in the Cutter area will be primarily Beginner. Hopefully they don't cut out the East Bowl too much. The glades in there are to good to just turn into trails.
Burke gets around 200-220" a year. Anyone claiming more has stars in thier eyes. The redeeming characteristics are the excellent snow retention and snow quality.
