Date Skied: 21 March 2009

Resort or Ski Area: Attitash

Conditions: firm spring snow, sunny

Trip Report:

Snow stayed firm for most of the day and started softening up only in the mid-afternoon. High for the day was 38 degrees.

I spent the morning on Bear Peak. Illusion, Avenger and Wandering Skis had good firm snow with little or no ice. Morning Star (the blue that one takes to get back to Attitash) was interesting. For some reason they let small moguls build up on one of its sections. These were fun to ski through, but a lot of skiers were not expecting that stretch.

Attitash had softer snow by the afternoon, to the point that even the double blacks (e.g., Tightrope) were not hard. This was one of those days where you could take an intermediate skier up to the top and not have to worry about dealing with patches of ice.

Attitash will stay open for three more weeks, and they have way more than enough base to last through that period.

I happened to be there Saturday, and yeah, the moguls on Morning Star were very surprising, (especially for a boarder), but hey, there's only one way down!
