OK... a friend of my wife's gave us a gift card to Attitash that she'd gotten a couple years ago. She knows we're going up there on vacation, and she wasn't planning on using it, so she figured we could use it.

What neither she nor my wife knew, but I immediately recognized once I saw it, was that this is an ASC gift card, and ASC no longer owns Attitash.

Does anyone here know if Peak is honoring the old ASC Attitash gift cards? It does have the Attitash logo right on the front, but it also has the ASC logo. It says: "Valid at the following American Skiing Company Resorts: Attitash, NH; Killington/Pico & Mount Snow, VT; Sunday River & Sugarloaf/USA, ME; The Canyons, UT; Steamboat, CO

So... it does say Attitash, but also makes it pretty clear that it's an ASC card. I guess it comes down to whether the purchase and sale agreement that Peak signed with ASC requires them to honor the old gift cards (or if they will do it just out of good will).

Anyone know if Attitash will accept this still?

Thanks,

Jason

Unencumbered by actual knowledge, I can point out that gift cards usually work such that they are not counted as income, for the seller, until they are used.

If the "seller" is ASC, you're likely out of luck, as your using them sends money to ASC. If, on the other hand, the "seller" is Attitash, they'd be happy to take the money.

Still, as mentioned above, as you are going up there, is certainly wouldn't hurt to try.

OK. I spoke with someone at Attitash this morning, and here is what she said:

If the gift card contains the Attitash logo predominantly on the front of the card, they will honor it (because if it contains the Attitash logo, it was purchased at Attitash). However, if it contains another ASC mountain's logo but simply mentions that it can be redeemed at Attitash, they will not honor it, because the presence of the other mountain's logo means that it was purchased at that other mountain and not at Attitash and the only reason it would originally have been valid at Attitash is because ASC honored the cards at all of their resorts.

So... in other words, Attitash is accepting cards that were purchased at Attitash, even if they were purchased when ASC owned the mountain, but they are not accepting ASC gift cards unless they were purchased at Attitash.

My guess is they're doing it for good will and are taking a complete loss on it, but, hey... someone paid for the card, so I'm glad it's being honored even if ASC's creditors were the only ones to benefit.

So... on a related note - can anyone fill me in on what dining options Attitash has on-mountain? We're looking to use this gift card for a dinner or two.

Thanks,

Jason

As long as the name of the resort you're at is on the voucher AND the voucher hasn't expired, it will be honored at face value per an agreement that was reached. Also, under most condtions, the terms that are on the back of the voucher remain in effect (some lodging exclusions and percentage of ski shop purchase eligible for voucher usage may still remain)
