it’s almost like there is an entire thread already dedicated to thatBumping this for SB folks to vent about the myriad of operational issues that they are seeing. I hope that Alterra sends SB some more love and replace NRX.
TB just really hates Alterra and wants the hatred in one thread to support his opinion.it’s almost like there is an entire thread already dedicated to that
But hey, Deer Valley has a least 3 or 4 brand new lifts open and many more to come this summer.![]()

Now Lancelot, Galahad and I wait until nightfall and then leap out of the wooden rabbit taking the French by surprise!
AFAIK the answer is yes. Although it was recently revealed that Extell/DVR were going to use incremental tax funding to pay for some of the lift system. In other words, the special use district will assess a sales tax (or property tax) and part of those funds will pay for infrastructure, including some of the lift system. That last part is not being well-received by the public. Is Alterra actually paying for any of those lifts? Or is it all on Extell? Makes a big difference when somebody else is writing the checks.
Alterra is investing in development. Ski areas are just a vehicle for real estate, same as it has always been. Nobody is in this for ticket sales. Areas that have no development potential will get the bare minimum. Just the way it is.
KSL doing a horrible job with one of their feeders down in PA. Completely driven me away. Sugarbush aside Alterra seems to be doing ok at Stratton and Winter Park the 2 places I get to on a regular basis.Ask the remaining SV locals about KSL. When they took over from the Cushings it became about bottom line and only making money. People conveniently forget that Alterra is owned mainly by private equity firms.
Both of those have very solid books of business, as they are close to metro areas. It seems that for every post we have complaining about the situation with Sugarbush we have at least one saying how great Stratton has been.KSL doing a horrible job with one of their feeders down in PA. Vail seems to not do well any where and alterra does well some placesBoth of those have very solid books of business, as they are close to metro areas. It seems that for every post we have complaining about the situation with Sugarbush we have at least one saying how great Stratton has been.
The thing that makes me laugh is how folks are quick to bash Vail (well deserved in a lot of instances) but won't criticize Alterra. The former is a publicly traded company while the latter is private equity. The former we hear about a lot because it is a publicy traded company but the latter you don't hear much. And both have done things that ruin the experience.
Ski areas are a money pit. I know it’s way hyperbolic but a place like Sbush needs to worry more about being added to the Lost Ski area project than being over developed.Ask the remaining SV locals about KSL. When they took over from the Cushings it became about bottom line and only making money. People conveniently forget that Alterra is owned mainly by private equity firms.
im starting to think Alterra is actually more evil than Vail. When NRX is just scuttled ( you can ski everything without it!) and Slidebrook is eventually just scuttled it will be confirmed. Both of those have very solid books of business, as they are close to metro areas. It seems that for every post we have complaining about the situation with Sugarbush we have at least one saying how great Stratton has been.

Exactly.Especially when Alterra's just copying Vail's business model. They just stay in the shadows & let Vail get all the bad press.
Except, isn't Al private and doesn't have to disclose how it spends, what its income is, or anything else? Vail, public, has to explain or at least be transparent on its business. What does anyone really know about Jared Smith or KSL Partners?Exactly.
I do have to wonder when, and if, there is a “reset” in the industry. When ASC dissolved that was a reset.Ouch! Telling it like it is.
