Avalance beacon/Pieps Dsp

Hey, has anyone heard of these Checker things this guy is talking about at the end of the article I found here on the
Pieps Dsp ? Curious to know your opinion on them, if they work well or not with other beacons like the Pieps 457 or the SOS F1-ND

Common procedure before heading into the backcountry with a group is to have one member turn their beacon to "search" and have the rest of the team file past him or her. that way the "searcher" can check that everyone's beacon is transmitting. My guess is that the "checker" is a way to check everyones beacon without having to use your own beacon? who know- seems a little unnecessary. maybe i'll google it and see...
