Anyone following the drama with RIM these days? Yesterday, it was the anonymous letter from an alleged high level employee...and RIM's response.

Rumor has it; there are more letters to come.

Well, that was fast...as I was typing, I found this: http://www.bgr.com/2011/07/01/more-letters-to-rim-employees-rally-alongside-anonymous-exec/

I bet the shareholder meeting later this month will be a bit "interesting".

Looks like a victim of not adjusting with the times. The only thing I miss about my Blackberrry is the battery life!

Yeah, you know me (or are getting to know me :) ) - I'm a huge tech nerd. I agree with o3jeff - the only thing I miss about the BB is the battery life.

Although I do also kinda miss the keyboard. On screen typing works but I misstype a lot. Even on a 4.3" screen. My old droid had the keyboard but the BB keyboards are by far the best I've used.

But other than that, the Android phone I have now completely blows it out of the water in almost every single way.

i got a new BB bold and the battery life sucks

Make sure you exit out of apps. Sometimes, they just close to the background. Bring up the task manager and see what's running.

I've got a 9700...and unless I hammer on the thing for hours, battery life is good. I even listen to podcasts to and from work.

Sounds like a good reason to me, but maybe the only reason...
Companies have a good reason to hand you one, no one matches their security. If you're a business that wants to keep stuff secure and don't care about your employees' ability to download 15 fart apps and 10 bubble packaging popping apps, they make a lot of sense.

My company doesn't care. Nothing is particularly secure, anyways. We use Skype for instant messaging and a lot of our International phone calls. The first thing Skype does when it boots is grab your Outlook contact list and try to spray it to Facebook. I have mine blocked but I'll bet 2/3 of my company has their contacts fed to Facebook. I pointed out the security problem and nobody seemed particularly interested in it.

I think I'm just about to take the plunge on a Motorola Droid. The Droid 3 gets released on Verizon in a few days. Time to start downloading fart apps. :)

...but you can get Droids with real keyboards. The Droid Pro is very Blackberry-like. the Droid 2, 2 Global, and 3 have a much bigger slideout keyboard. If you're just web surfing, you just use the touch screen. If you need to do power email functions, you slide out the keyboard.

Love the slide out keyboard on my LG Ally. A good slideout is definitely a must have for me. As a matter of fact part of the reason I picked this phone over the original Droid was because I liked the keyboard better.

I have a BlackBerry because it's paid for.
I don't particularly like Apple products.
I've never used an Android phone.
RIM needs to adapt or die.
I have no idea what phone I'd get if I had to get one for myself. Probably a Blackberry by default.

I think part of the problem with BB is the older OS...and lack of apps.

It seems like a lot of developers are backing out of creating BB apps because A) it's a bit difficult, B) the platform isn't as popular as Apple and Andriod. I can say that many BB apps aren't 100% like apps you get on the other platforms. I don't want to say they're watered down; they're just not as robust.

I have 2 apps on my BB- OpenTable, which I almost never use it because it freezes all the time, and Pandora, which I almost never use because it freezes all the time.

I'm guessing A has a lot to do with it, given that the WP7 store is going to overtake them in a few months with a smaller user base and about a third of the time being actually open; they might already be at around the same level if you don't count the lite and paid versions of the same app in the BB store (WP7 just has a demo mode instead of seperate apps.)

It's very interesting how windows is growing...and the phones aren't that popular as of yet. Some are saying its popularity will be pretty big in a few years.

cten,
I think it's time for a battery pull.

cten,
I think it's time for a battery pull.

I've pulled the battery probably 10 times in the past 2 weeks- every time I put it in, whatever wasn't working is fixed, but something else stops working. In Barcelona, the browser wouldn't work, but mail and maps did. in London, the browser worked, but I couldn't get mail. In Girona, browser and mail worked, but I couldn't make calls. This morning, mail doesn't work (and I'm in my office).
